Islam: Evil or misunderstood

Whatever, man...

You're right. 1.5 billion people on earth are angry, violent, medieval little fuckers and are at war with them or at least should be. Now what....?

You make a pretty damning blanket statement and then back it up with some very questionable evidence. I suggest you get away from the google and actually go talk to some muslims. I actually used to think like you in a lot of ways, but ended up talking to some devout muslims in morocco who really changed my perspective on a number of things and made me approach the subject with fewer prejudices.

Like I said earlier, there is lots of evidence in books, the news and on the internet to prove that christians are violent, ignorant and hateful lot. And there are ten christians I could go grab off the street right now that would be pretty solid evidence that that's a crock of shit. When you close your mind like that, you will probably be able to find plenty of evidence of muslims being angry and hateful.

And I am genuinely sorry for being a pompous ass and making this discussion so confrontational. I wouldn't be doing it if I thought you were an dummy....

And you're right buck, it's strange enough for two jews to be arguing that muslims are mostly peaceful and whatnot. Never thought i'd see the day.
Did these wonderful, peace loving Moroccan Muslims know you were a Jew?

Why did Al Queda attack? Because OBL was pissed off about Western military forces occupying Muslim lands.

You see, once a territory becomes Muslim, it can never be anything else.

And many of those 1.5 billion Muslims sat on their hands instead of even trying to fix the problem in their own faith. Why?

Were they afraid of the extremists?

Or do they secretly agree with them?

Now go ahead and slink back into your elitist hidey-hole where Progressives are so comfortable. I don't have a Ph D. in International Relations from Georgetown therefore I don't know what I am talking about.

Were trying to view the religion, not the people who embody it, that is a whole different thread. Where your proof that inferiority of woman is a mantra of Islam
Too entirely heavy a topic to touch base on.......but if you really wish to know, read this book---extremely informative.

I guess I struck a nerve or something. Sorry, johnny...

Let's see:

I don't go around with a star of david carved into my forehead, but I let people know if they ask and I've never encountered any hostility about it. Actually, morocco has a very old jewish community and there haven't been a lot of problems between jews and muslims until recently. My friend who lives there is jewish also, everyone knows and it's not an issue. Granted, that wouldn't be the same in say yemen or libya, but ok...

And yes, the fact the we've had troops in saudi is supposedly one of the beefs OBL has with us. The point is...? You do also realize that all of the balkans up to austria, sicily, southern spain and much of southern russia were all under muslim rule at one time, right?

Actually, most of the muslim world was as revolted by 9/11 as everyone else. Even iran broke their diplomatic radio silence to send condolences and offered help in tracking down al quaeda. Then came the axis of evil speech and suddenly the hard-liners had the upper hand. There are plenty of moderate muslims, but we make it hard for them to be heard when we do things like invade iraq or declare that we're waging a crusade against islam.

You know what, johnny...? You go fight your war with the muslims with your fifty cal, i'll go back to Morocco and smoke hash with them.

And I don't know what you're little closing tantrum is about but I don't have a phd from georgetown either, yet I know that statement's like "we're at war with islam" are usually reserved for dimwits...

Neither, its those that practice that bring in the evil!

The religion(s) themselves are very much peaceful.......once you add the human element you get some fuck shit!

:peace:
Islam is not at all based on peace.
How many of you defending this "peaceful" religion have taken your personal time and expended countless hours studying prior to defending?

Killing innocent people is fine, if they think Mohammed would approve. Their culture is evil and insane.
quote]

Once again it boils down to the person practicing.
Christians killed inocent people b/c they thought JC would approve! Same thing just different.
To say their culture is evil and insane is to broad to be realistic.

It comes down to perception. . . . . . .if you feel those that percieve Allah's words a certain way, to be evil and insane then you could be right. Just like the crazy fucks that misinterpret the bible.

:peace:

A pertinent point to make would be that Jesus did not teach violence, whereas Mohammad taught it on so many "virtuous" levels, it's incomprehensible.

With the exceptions of the Balkans and Chechnya they were beaten back. But the Balkans and Chechnya have been a models of peaceful co-existence, right?

Actually, most of the muslim world was as revolted by 9/11 as everyone else. Even iran broke their diplomatic radio silence to send condolences and offered help in tracking down al quaeda. And the refusal to recognize the conflict for what it is, is reserved for dhimmis.

But speaking for myself, I will not submit.

I never claimed you went to Georgetown.

I was simply aping many Progressives who use as a fallback position the fact that their opponent is not an expert therefore not worthy of an opinion on a given subject.

Like I stated previously, it's your tell.

i keep close company with islamic palastinians....and they have taught me alot about the islamic religion and arabic culture over the years and i do follow some islamic beliefs...but just like any other religion or belief system you have the nut jobs....but because of americas campaign against anything other than christianity we only see the evil of islam over here and not the good...what isnt talked about are the terror and attrocities carried out in the name of cristianity and catholocism.....9/11 has nothing on the crusades...
Even if 911 was executed by extreme muslims it would indeed fade against the crusade and so many other acts of cristianinsanity .. :)
Just as long as they repeat the word terrorist all over the more and more of your rights can be diminished..

I have some islam friends myself and islam is not a bad religion.. all religions are bad when put forward by extremists..

Chechnya and the balkans conflict were not about religion but rather ethnic politics that happen to overlap with religion, but that's beside the point. Your assertion was that once land is muslim, it stays that way in the mind of muslims. Sicily and Andalusia seem at odds with that statement, whether they were beaten back or not.

If we are indeed at war with islam, then we're probably wasting our time in iraq and afghanistan. India has more muslims than any other country on earth so we should be fighting them...how about indonesia? In fact, the middle east should be the least of our worries since that's only a small percentage of muslims...

Your fallback position seems to be to harp on about what 'progressives' tend to do rather than stick to the point being discussed. Is that your tell...? When azn-man posts some conspiracy bullshit about vaccines and I dismiss it, it's not because he isn't a physician.

I know you're not 'accusing' me of having a phd from georgetown, you must have misunderstood. I was saying that you don't need an advanced degree to understand that we're at war with a small, violent segment of a religious group. The same way I don't need an MD from harvard to know that vaccines have eradicated smallpox and polio with some minor, benign side-effects for the most part.

Thinking you're at war with 1.5 billion people, most of whom are peaceful and want the same things as you and me, is almost as bad as thinking vaccines are a plot to poison you.

Anyhooo.....this discussion has probably run it's course and I'm sorry if I provoked some animosity by being overly confrontational. At least it's a nice change from all the conspiracy bullshit.

No animosity. Sometimes I enjoy our jousting.

It's clear that we approach this from completely different perspectives.

And perhaps clash of civilizations was not as appropriate as clash of empires. But we are not at war with a specific country, rather with an ideology. Obviously you believe this ideology only affects a small percentage, while I believe it permeates the entire religion and the whole 'religion of peace' thing is a subterfuge.

In WW II we did not fight the Japanese on the Japanese Home Islands until very late in the war. We fought them were they were attacking us; and we attacked them where we thought we could defeat them. An invasion of Japan in 1942 would have been disastrous, so we fought them in the Solomons, at Midway Island, the Marianas, etc. We worked our way up to the Home Islands and took severe beatings taking Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Both were very costly victories. When we realized how costly a November 1945 invasion on the main Island was going to be, we nuked them into submission in August.

This why we cannot directly attack Mecca or Medina.

I would also like to clear up what I said that about territory being Muslim. I mean territory permanently settled and incorporated into the Muslim Empire. I do not mean territorial gains made and lost over a relatively short period of time. Example, Jerusalem would fit my criteria, but Spain would not. Does that explain my point a little better?

But even if you do not accept that explanation, my original meaning could still stand. Just because the Muslims are not harping over Spain does not mean they are happy about losing whatever gains they made, albeit temporarily. Does the term Eurabia ring a bell?

I hope you are having a good day.
