Is this true?

I don't think there is a proven explanation .. But generally it is believe that people don't feel the high because the brain has to like... Get somewhat of an immunity before it recognizes the chemical or somethin.. It's hard to explain... I read it somewhere before and I could never find it again ... But another plausible explanation is that most people just don't hit it right the first time.....

Have you guys ever read Carl Sagan's essay on weed? It kinda explains why people don't get high their first time.... Expectancy .. Makes sense...This is a bit from the essay...

[SIZE=-1]It all began about ten years ago. I had reached a considerably more relaxed period in my life - a time when I had come to feel that there was more to living than science, a time of awakening of my social consciousness and amiability, a time when I was open to new experiences. I had become friendly with a group of people who occasionally smoked cannabis, irregularly, but with evident pleasure. Initially I was unwilling to partake, but the apparent euphoria that cannabis produced and the fact that there was no physiological addiction to the plant eventually persuaded me to try. My initial experiences were entirely disappointing; there was no effect at all, and I began to entertain a variety of hypotheses about cannabis being a placebo which worked by expectation and hyperventilation rather than by chemistry.

[SIZE=-1]After about five or six unsuccessful attempts, however, it happened. I was lying on my back in a friend's living room idly examining the pattern of shadows on the ceiling cast by a potted plant (not cannabis!). I suddenly realized that I was examining an intricately detailed miniature Volkswagen, distinctly outlined by the shadows. I was very skeptical at this perception, and tried to find inconsistencies between Volkswagens and what I viewed on the ceiling. But it was all there, down to hubcaps, license plate, chrome, and even the small handle used for opening the trunk. When I closed my eyes, I was stunned to find that there was a movie going on the inside of my eyelids. Flash . . . a simple country scene with red farmhouse, a blue sky, white clouds, yellow path meandering over green hills to the horizon. . . Flash . . . same scene, orange house, brown sky, red clouds, yellow path, violet fields . . . Flash . . . Flash . . . Flash. The flashes came about once a heartbeat. Each flash brought the same simple scene into view, but each time with a different set of colors . . . exquisitely deep hues, and astonishingly harmonious in their juxtaposition. Since then I have smoked occasionally and enjoyed it thoroughly. It amplifies torpid sensibilities and produces what to me are even more interesting effects, as I will explain shortly.

The first time i hit it i definitely was flyin. My cousin made this homemade bowl out of a glue stick container. After smoking about 2 g between the both of us we go to my car for some tunes. As we are in the car im thinking i'm fine and out of nowhere this intense warm feeling encompass the back of my head, my hands became so numb i couldn't feel them. I started to bug out and was telling my cousin my hands are gone and thinking i was gnna die. Never will forget that so yeah id say it depends on the person but i definitely got high the first time.

i think it varies from person to person... me and a friend smoked for the first time together with a few experienced stoner friends.... my buddy got high as hell, i had no effects whatsoever.
they told me that some people dont get high their first time, so they let me keep the three roaches to smoke later; which i smoked that night and still didnt get high...

so i didnt bother with weed for about 4months after; until a new year's party, i smoked on two joints and i was :eyesmoke::eyesmoke:... been smokin ever since

maybe the cig smokers have more of a chance of getting high their first time. someone start a survey/test.
hard part: rounding up a couple hundred persons to willingly smoke for the first time.
do i smell a grant? i wish.

I got high my first time (it was a j) but I think alot of people who say they didnt get high because they never really take a hit, they puff on it, blow it out, because they don't know what there doing, so their never actually take much smoke into their lungs, but than next time or later they figure out that really have to pull on it to get real smoke and than light bulb goes on in their head:idea:. this is just a theory because I don't see how someone can take a massive bong rip if sour diesel and not get high. If someone can tell me that they took a huge bong rip of dro and didn't get high than i might believe
