is this something that could be true?

i have a tray. on a heat mat with a thermostat. i use it for cloning and seedlings.
i had 4 rows of 5 seeds.
all rows germ.
4 rows sprout and grow. 100% success rate.
1 rows the seeds germ, get just a tip of root poking out, then are attacked by some type of larvae/nematode. i split my plugs a little to see what was going on because they weren't popping. 1 seed had at least five clear, white worm like creatures crawling all over it. it seems the shell casing pops and they enter and start eating. so i took some ungermed seeds and put them under my microscope. i am seeing what appears to be clusters of eggs on spots on the seeds. just a little spot here on this one and there on that one. it looks somewhat like glazed tapiocca pudding. it's smooth shiny and hard on the surface but you can see little egg like spots within. this is only happening on this particular batch of seeds. i have numeruos other batches right next to them that aren't being attacked.

so am i trippin'? or is this a real pest?

no bullshit on this one. it's rather important. like i said it's just this particular group. maybe it's in my tray and the others are just stronger seeds? this batch of seeds is more than one strain but came from the same place. i have 3 other batches from different places that did not do this, all in the same tray. i will look at other seeds that don't have wormies and see if i see the same clusters. they are definately worms, visable with the naked eye.

Hey fdd,

a couple of weeks ago i had this exact thing happen to one of my sprouts. The seed half cracked and thats as far as it got. A half cracked seed just popping out of the soil and infested with creepies inside the shell.

Have you got any theories on how it happened?

i just looked at some other seeds. they have the same tapiocca markings on then, so those aren't eggs. i guess.

it is really odd that only this row is doing it.

wanna hear something even weirder?
i put 5 in a cup with a paper towel wrappped around the inside. dropped then along side the towel and cup. elementary school style. 3 days they have 1 1/2" roots. no bugs.

i'm changing my germing methods to 3rd grade style.

as far as the wormies ??????????

thank you abudsmoker. i did not want to mention anything because these seeds were a very nice gesture. this really cool web site was having a contest and I WON !! to bad the prize included wormies.

the one in the cup are doing GREAT. nice looooong healthy tap roots growing. almost ready for soil.

it is really strange that the worms don't appear in the cup. the cup is on a shelf in a cold enviroment. the plugs are heated. this and the medium holding the seed are the only 2 variables.

like i said i'm sticking with the cup method. this way you can also view growth without disturbing anything. i have mine in a semi transparent green plastic cup.

i better hope that this is not a common problem with nirvana lately;) well i never had it but since i constantly grow nirvana seeds this sounds a bit worrying:spew:

Same thing happened to about half the seeds from my current batch, and I found some worms on a plant which has since stopped growing even after a soil change.

Fucking government THC worms
