Is this setup going to work?

Ok so basically my friend got this setup and it looks kinda cool but I don't think it's gonna work because of how poor it is, it's basically a shoebox with tin foil all round it with a hole cut out the top for light to get in and a computer fan in the side of it

I must admit it does look cool but I have my doubts

I'm not sure what type of lamp is being used so I took a picture of it's sticker

Just looks like a basic desk lamp to me

It ain't that simple. A desk lamp will not be enough light. You need more height - big time! And you need top put the plant into something with drainholes if you don't want your roots to drown.

The lightbulb itself is more important than the lamp fixture. If it is a cfl(fluorescent, spiral tube) then he may get a little plant going. If it is an incandescent(plain old house lightbulb) then it's prob not worth all the hassle unless you are just bored and want a pet to feed

Also, will need to transplant it into a bigger pot. And when he does, tell him to bury it almost where the first leaves start. That stem is a bit long and stretchy. Could help if the plant was closer to the bulb, but not close enough to burn

short answer, NO, it won't work, I can't see of any way fathomable that you can grow a plant using 20w of light, in a shoebox, nor can I see why you'd want to. Even if you found some magical way to provide enough lumens to it, you still have no room, even a thick beefy plant wouldn't get you much more than a quarter ounce of herb in the space provided, if you want a small grow like that, you need at least 3 feet of room, at minimum.
Even as a seedling, it's stretched to the top trying to get more light

I would ditch the foil itll get hot spots, also the light on the fan idk if thats on all the time but it'll disrupt the night cycle if it is I would make sure thats off or well covered bongsmilie:bigjoint:

Put a Big CFL in there like a 42 watter you could probably get like a quarter off of it.....
