Is This Picture of Stretch?

I just lost two plants to this problem so I took a picture of it this time. The purple stem turns green in the middle, maybe turnig purple later. My guess is the green is the new growth, and maybe weaker than the purple part of the stem. My other two plants that croaked fell over, I believe due to this weaker green stem portion. Am I right?

bury them up to the bottom of the first leaves. this will prevent them from falling over and give you a stronger stalk.

This is a good suggestion.

Also, how deep did you drop the seeds? Do you have a fan blowing on them to strengthen the stalks? Are you nuting?

As to stretching, what lights do you have and how close are they?

Seeds about a half inch deep, although this plant got knocked over just after sprouting and I repotted it. It has been real strong so far, but it is leaning just a little this morning.

As for grow conditions, I put them outside all day and bring them in at night, so...no fan, no lights. For nutes, I have done nothing but use the best seedling soil I could find that was advertised to have food release qualities up to nine months.

This is my first grow, and out of four seeds, three sprouted and two of those are already dead, so all advice is welcome!

fdd...can I bury them up to the pot rim? This would leave about 1/4 inch of stalk showing. To go all the way to the leaves would require repotting sooner than I wanted to.
 
yeah but if your gonna bury some leaves when you add dirt you better remove em becuase leaves in dirt is an invite for mold

yes bury them to the rim. they will most likely continue to stretch a little. when you do finally repot just continue to bury the bottom of the stalk. i always plant low to allow room for stalk burying.
 
Thanks again! I really don't want to lose this one, too.

I plan to bury this one to the rim, then when it outgrows that pot I will repot to its final 3-gallon pot (I guess burying it to the top here as well?). I then want to LST it to keep it low for easy transport inside and outside. Sound like a good plan?

yes bury it to the top as well. all the part you bury will grow roots off the sides.
 
Thanks a lot guys. Had I known this last week I might still have three plants...great advice. I appreciate it. Just buried the one in the picture, and buried the other one on its last leg as a last ditch effort.
