Is this humidity too barren?

Hey all, recently purchaced a combo thermomender hydrometer.

It doesnt say Relative Humidity on the dial. it just says, "Humidity" not sure if theres a big difference, and its Analog, not digital. so my guess its not relative to temperature.

The humidity reads 18%.
I know that dryer air leads to thicker THC resin as the plants protect themselfs, but i cant help but feel 18% is just too extreme.

The dial isnt broken, when held over boiled kettle it reads 100%

took it in the washroom while i showered it was 85%, left it outside and it read 45%
and weather network said humidty out that day was 48%.
so i figuered, its pretty accurate given that they probably did the test at pearson "the airport" rather then north york where i live "90 minute drive away"


Ive left open water in there to bring it up, and quickly realized it was just getting vented out, and dry air was being ducted in.

Its not unique to my grow box, my entire house is 18-20% humidity.

Baseboard heaters are to blame ;/
wake up each morning with a dry mouth.
Is there anything short of getting a $100 humidifier possible?
i mean its just a 4ft/sq box (2ft high, 2ft wide, 1ft deep)

That's a good number.. Having a RH will help you to keep mold and insects out.. Be glad.. If you still feel uncomfortable with that number you can ut a bucket of water with the lid off in the room and see if that works for ya.. But really you are OK if you are flowering.. Peace

All in all this a great problem to have. Like big said, place an( or a few) open containers of water to raise the humidity in the room for Vege, but if flower the low humidity is reccomended.

As for the dry mouth I think that's from the green :)

Hey samljer,

My grow room is usually 22% and never had a problem. If anything, like you mentioned, it may have increased the trich production on the babies. If I were you, I wouldn't waste the moola on a DHer just for your dry grow space. It won't be a problem. But if your drymouth is turning your tongue to #60 sandpaper, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea after all :D

thanks, i just figured with a 90*F room and such a low humidity it may be a problem
but i think after hearing, everythings perfect.

Ya just put a tray of water in your grow area and it will get it a bit more humid, sometimes they don't like it that dry, especially if you have a lot of air movement too.

well weed is actually fine up to 92*F so long as you add CO2 and water to compensate and i have. im more worried that the water i do add just ends up evaporated in hours.

92*F is only 32*C which is still colder then most natural habitats for weed.

I tried the tray of water idea, RH went up 1%. i think the water vapor is just being vented out.

I have a $7 Wal Mart digital thermometer/hygrometer and it succckkks! It says my grow room is 109F and my living space is 86F in the middle of winter--wtf? I have two $1 Wal Mart analog thermometers and they're quite accurate--one's in the top of my case (near the exhausts) and the other is in the bottom (near the plants)--they read 82 and 84 respectively--what the box feels like. My next task is to tackle my humidity--as all my major problems are tackled--heat, pH, water, nutes, lumens. I just put a Vick's warm mist humidifier near my PC stealth grow and I think it might be helping probably 5%. I'm going to get an analog hygrometer and stick that sucker in my case to see if I need to invest in a personal humidifier for the grow space. Whatever you do, do not buy a cheap digital hydrometer--huge waste of space, time, and money. This is just my info and two cents.

Best of luck to all with humidity problems--remember, it could be worse. Your grow space could be 98F, your pH could be 10, and you could have nute burn because you cheaped out on Miracle Gro soil haha.

Just put a bowl or 2 in grow room and then check humidity next day should really help,that is all i use!!good luck 18% is way to low but then again my brother grows in las vegas it's very dry and fuckin hot this summer was over 110 degrees and he grows huge sativas like 9-12 ft huge man,but they're outdoor!!:weed:

It is that low in here. the humidity i mean.
Its not due to a cheap reader as suggested, ive used my friends digital one and got the same 18%


And believe me, germinating seeds in these conditions has been no picnic. pain in the ass.
seedlings will grow, open, get serrated blades, then start to dry out pretty quickly, i cant seem to keep up on misting.

I may not be able to grow if it doesnt get better

Yea it could be worse, having real problems getting the seedlings from drying out. they get too high for humidity domes, and i have to mist them constantly. pain the ass lol.
once the root system size is good it wont be consern, but getting to that point while in 18%RH and 90*F is just plain hardcore lol
