Hey guys, its my first plant. So I don't know much about the names of the different parts of the plant but...

Near the stalk, where those green spikes come from (not the leaves), well... there is a white hair coming out of one of the green spike thingys.
Is this a sign of a female?

Yeah I can almost gurantee you have it right by the way you described it.

But I've had another look this morning. The white hairs have grown so congrats for me.
