I threw 200 watts of CFl in with a 400 watt MH...the growth over the next 4 days was so significant that I pulled the CFl's completely out of the tent. I was afraid of running out of room in the tent. The CFL's are going back into the tent for flower once the first stretch is over.

the light is not going to burn them unless u have the wrong type of light (like grow lights that r not meant for cannabis) or if u have them to close to any other light other then cfl's (as u can be under 2" with them & be okay)

More light typically means more growth...to a point. I haven't found that point yet but I'm new to indoor growing.

ive used 600w hps from the start on seedlings (usually do, unless im using that light in flowering), about a foot away, sometimes i add 400w mh as sidelighting, lately ive begun adding some t5´s (looks like highnoon in the tropics in there)

i get pretty big plants pretty fast.

that is true in veg stage but in flowering stage too much could burn the plants no?

Too much light is detrimental. But it's definitely not a common problem. Some people call it light bleaching.
