You just blamed the conservatives for a bad health bill, who voted this bill into law again? You can stimulate the economy only after all the bad debt is gone, otherwise your just sticking the finger in the leak in the dyke.
Its a 13 MONTH extension Medman, if it were only 13 weeks that would have been a HUGE defeat for the dems. and IMO would have been a slap in the face of the current check collectors.

Yeah, we all saw how good the rich are with investing money.... Are you sane? We are talking about tax dollars that we did at one time collect, that we are no longer collecting because of FISCAL CONSERVATIVES whom insist that the rich continue to receive a tax break. It WAS money owed the government until a small majority Republican led Senate passed a budgetary measure providing the tax holiday of 10 years. Now it grows to 12 years, of not collecting taxes that by law, are on the books.... The only reason we AREN'T collecting said revenue is because your rich ancestors in the Senate gave away our rights to collect 72 billion per year. This tax giveaway amounts to lost revenue, no matter how well you think you are spinning it.

The congress has the power to raise taxes. They are not giving away anything.
Anyway, Obama caved... It will help to make the economy better...
Your government is telling you that borrowing a dollar from China and spending it on Unemployment benefits generates $1.60 in economic activity. Based on that, everyone should get an unemployment check and we will shortly be able to pay off China!!! BONUS!!! Yeah, that is your government in action. Either clueless or lying through their teeth and probably both.

I'm fairly sure they are going to attach a bunch of stipulations to that 13 months of extended benefits. Either way, it was quite generous and is quite telling about how bad the job situation really is.

Everyone has a friend or two that they know that are not really looking for jobs, they are just scraping by picking up a check every 2 weeks.
The job situation is not going to get significantly better until people feel the need to find a job and start working again.

I, for one, am not a "rethug" and don't intend to defend Bush. However, the recessions were due to an inflated tech bubble bursting, 9/11, anderson/enron/worldcom ect and the 2nd one,of course, suprime. Point is, it was clearly not due to tax policy. You can argue ...well maybe the tax cuts weren't a good idea in the first place...fine we can have that debate. But regardless of how you feel right or wrong....bottom line now is not the time to let them expire because it would have had a negative impact. It's one less thing to navigate and speculate on in an uncertain market

NO! these people USED TO PAY MORE. with this tax cut bill, they got a HUGE tax break. now we want to put their taxes back where they used to be. theyre saying the government is raising taxes on them and OMG THE WORLDS GONNA END! do u not understand that they pay way less than what they used to?

Of course this is partially true, but it's just not that simple. Everyone seems to think that getting a job is a simple matter of filling out the application and presenting yourself well in an interview. Competition, at least around where I live, for jobs is fierce! We had a small factory open up recently near where I live. There were approx. 300 jobs available. This company had a hiring fair and over 3,000 people showed up! There have been similar situations with retail stores hiring for holiday help. There just aren't enough jobs where I live to go around. I heard a segment on the news about this and they were saying there were approx. 5 people for every 1 job in the area where I live. People who are older, don't have a degree, have some sort of disability, etc., don't stand a chance of getting a job! I'm sure the job situation is different depending where you live but all in all it's bleak.

You're missing the point! It's still not the government's money to take! You all are acting like the government is entitled to a greater share of people's money who are perceived as wealthy! This is simple envy, nothing more. Many people covet what someone else has. You really think it's fair to take a greater share of taxes from someone simply because they make more? I'm not sure where we went wrong in this country and why there is this prevailing attitude of entitlement in this country. Put yourself in that position. Let's say you are a small business owner. You worked hard and built your business from the ground up. Would you think it's fair for you to pay a greater share simply because you make a little more than the guy down the street? The government is already too damn big and unmanageable. I don't even know why I bother with these conversations! I am a small business owner and worked really hard to build my business and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay more simply because someone thinks I make too much. Who decides what wealthy is anyways? Why am I suddenly not entitled to work hard, provide the best life I can for my family without having to worry about all of my business' profits being eaten away with taxes? I seriously don't even know why I bother.

I take it you are not a multimillionare or billionare? I don't own a small business, I work for a company...but I sort of work for myself. Our firm has cut just about everyone who is overhead in the last couple of years...about 80% of personel.
It's easy for me to see the day to day impact of this stuff in the news. Perhaps you can help shed some light on how this affects you besides just getting in your pocket. Obviously, it makes you upset from a standpoint that you worked hard for that money, but what else? Is it money to employ others you could use, money to maintain and expand your business, money you can use to secure your families future? Please make these knuckleheads understand that just because you're over a certain tax bracket that the money is not extraneous. How can it limit you?
