is SOG impossible with DWC

Hey everyone I am looking for any advice/suggestions from anyone who might have tried this.

I have been trying to grow two tents, 16 "small" plants each SOG style staggered 4-5 weeks apart but I am starting to think the DWC growth rate is just too much.
The plan was to eliminate the need for mothers and just top the clones once for the next batch and then flip to flower as soon as they recover

I cut clones from mother September 20th, put in totes on the 30th, topped on October 7th and flipped to 12/12 on October 16th and today they are 32 inches tall and pretty much fill the 4x4 tent. I was hoping they would be 1/2 that size, they were like 4" tall after I topped them lol

I am now kind of wondering if I should just give up and go back to 4 trained plants to fill the tent.

Thanks

Hey OldMedUser thanks for the reply.

I am going to try one more time and flip some right away. Kind of defeats the whole point of not having to keep mothers though, going to depend a lot on the yield whether I continue.

I was previously just growing 2 plants per tote, mainlining them to 8 colas each and basically getting 32 buds like this. I was hoping the SOG would be less work and a little quicker to yield about the same.

If you’re just trying to avoid keeping moms could always reveg after harvest. Leave a bottom bud and a couple leaves then back to veg nutes with dim light. Basically treat it like a clone for a couple weeks(warm and humid). Starts new growth in about the same amount of time it takes to root a cut.
Never done it in hydro but as long as your root zones healthy it should work.

Man...I'm not a germaphobe or a clean freak. But please don't put your fresh trim on a filthy fucking lawn chair! Haha. Ewwwww

lol, actually this is what was happening on the other lawn chairs :D

no worries by the way, I have been battling the borg and PM as well as dog hair so all those buds were on their way to a peroxide, lemon juice/baking soda bath. Bud washing seems to be an excellent plan by the way, everyone loves the smoke after.

Doesn’t that wash the trichomes off? And what portions of each in ratio to each individual mixture do you make?

I use 5 gallon buckets, first one has 3:1 mix of 3% peroxide, 2nd is 1/4 to 1/2 cup of each of lemon juice and baking soda, 3rd and 4th just water rinse buckets.
as long as you are not banging the buds off the sides of the buckets there is no damage to trichomes, thankfully they are water proof or we'd be running outside with umbrellas every time it rains

It doesn't wash the trichomes off; the resin is not water soluble. You must not use cold water because that will make the trichomes brittle and some will in fact break off. Luke warm water is best.

I would not worry too much about the strength of the H2O2 solution -- most people use an 1:80 dilution of 3% H2O2. It's probably safe to use a much stronger dilution. You're not going to soak the buds for hours on end in it. A few minutes, then rinse with clear water.

Don't worry about the H2O2 leaving a "residue", this is chemically impossible. It will always completely break down or evaporate from the buds, no matter how strong your dilution was.

If you combine acid and baking soda this will create a mild carbonated water solution, which supposedly helps clean the buds. I would rather do a separate bath of alkaline solution (baking soda only), followed by a bath of H2O2 + acid, then rinse with pure water.

If you want the carbonation, add some carbonated water to the H2O2 bath. Makes more sense to me than combinding acid and soda.

I would rather use pure citric acid (very easy to find with the cleaning products) than lemon juice. The lemon juice will contain sugar and lots of other organic matter, possibly also oils that will interact with the trichomes.

If you clone the clones in early flower you will have them ready immediately for the next batch.

This re-vegging business seems to be very awkward to me, it also forces you to leave the plants in the DWC indefinitely. The root system is not going to survive forever.

I only let my plants veg for 10 -14 days then I flip em. If I veg for a month sea of green easy.
