Agreed. The halogen bulbs are inefficient, have high heat, and my guess probably not the ideal kelvin level (color temperature). 5000-6500k for veg (cool white-daylight CFL's), and 2700-3000k for flower.

Right on man. this is pure fact, those plants will be crap under your current lighting. good thing is CFL bulbs are like 3-4 dollars for 4 of them. make sure you have good ventilation cause CFLS can get hot.

man, my cfl's dont get hot, and they are like 1.5 inches from the top of the plant. and they are cheap, but ive read that 6500K (daylight) is best for veg..... and around 2500K is best for flowering. im new to this too, and i am in no position to argue with anyone.....just sayin, research more and give it a shot. i have 23 watt 6500K for each one, and they are small. only problem, is i know for a fact that i am gonna need quite a few more if i plan on having more than 2.:leaf:

yes im telling you, your lights are garbage for what u want to do.Ditch them plain n simple.go to the store and buy at a bunch of CFL lights in the Daylight spectrum and softwhite spectrum (i prefer mixed spectrum throughout VEG and Flower.BUT in VEG MH is dominant which if vegging with CFL you would want the Daylight spectrum, and in flower HPS is dominant or if you were using CFL's you would want soft white for flowering..) Use the CFLs instead of halogen if you wanna go on the cheep, your plants will thank you. and you WILL have bigger yields. i promise you. if you want the ultimate go with HID setup with CFL lighting on the sides of the plants!

Id say get at least 5 per plant, 4 of them cost about 4 dollars. put them CLOSE im talking within an inch of touching the plant, and have good airflow going thru the plants.do not keep the CFLS too far away the light will loose it potency the farther it gets away.(i make Reflectors for my CFL lights with coke cans and Mylar film. to reflect all those lumins onto the plant.

CFLS will get u a better grow then a halogen. Invest in them. or better yet invest in a MH/HPS HID setup, with CFL supplimental lighting.

Agreed. If I had the money like I used to, I'de do MH/HPS with 8" vented hoods, digital ballasts, and fill any extra ceiling and wall space with fluorescents at the right spectrum for each room. Oh Can't forget CO2 supplementation, etc etc. LOL. But for what you're doing, with the halogen you will have a sickly plant compared to normal, just get the Cool White or Daylight CFL! Were not trying to rag on you, were here to help you.:weed:

ohk thank you so whats the best light bolb for starting seeds?
Get the Daylight CFL (more watts the better, do what can work and be afforded). Daylight is 6500k, and will keep your plant short and bushy, with tight nodes.:-o You can even use it for flowering, just have good ventilation your nug(s) will be tight!

good deal man, although, if i were you,and had the extra cash go with more wattage 11 watt is weak sauce.
not trying to be so critical of you but i just trying to help you get good results.

look for 23-26 watt CFLs i recommend at least 4 of these PER plant the bigger you let them get the more watts they will want.
you want the light to illuminate the entire plant, you also need enough light to penetrate the foilage. this will improve your yields dramatically.
the way i see it is if your gonna spend the time to grow, make sure you do it as best as you and your money allow.
get some more light! youll thank me later :)

Yeah man. You dont want 11w energy savers. I originally had those. I mean it grows but sooo slowly and you wont get much if anything in the long run. Unless this is your first grow and your just getting one under your belt. But either way, go to lowes and buy a 4 pack of 23watt 6500k daylight bulbs for $6
