Is my expected yield reasonable?

I'm new to growing, never done it before but I've done plenty of research. I have been thinking of starting a small outdoor crop this year and while on the search for the perfect seed, I came across the KC Brains KC45 strain over at herbies. It's a feminized auto and from the description of the it almost sounds too good to be true. Herbies states "Although she grows much better outdoors, KC 45 cannabis can also be grown under HID and LED lights. However, she is better outdoors as she tends to grow into a Christmas tree-shaped plant as tall as 7 feet. Regular reports of 3-pound+ yields, per outdoor plant harvested, are reported. Bud colas commonly measure up to a meter-long!"

3+ pound yields! That's per plant!

Now a year ago I would've taken this at face value, but I've heard that yields are based on grams per square meter. So which case I couldn't get 50 plants throw'em in a field in rows and get 150 pounds out of it. I need to give them about 10 ft of their own grow space. But would I be right in assuming if I took about 10 of the seeds scattered them around my property, ensuring plenty of room to grow, that I could get at least 10 pounds? That just seems like an obscene amount of weight considering so few plants.

But like a said I'm new to this, and the best way to learn is by showing your ignorance. So is my logic faulty, or is this real life right now?

I think you better pinch yourself a few more times. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

People are doing 1lb a plant indoors... outdoors is different but you have the best lighting available.

What's your average yield? I know it's my first grow but I'd like to have some idea of how many seeds I'll need.

Blue AutoMazar and Think Different are high yielders I hear, 75-100 grams and 50-75 grams per plant respectively. I think that is much more believable a yield, 10 plants yielding around 2 pounds. Should this be what to expect. My second crop is extremely dependent on how much weight I can produce with the first.

My first grow in 3 gal dwc buckets was on average 3oz per plant. That's indoors topped and lst.

3lbs per plant sounds like those giant sativas you see in cali weed documentaries. inside it's about a zip per amp lighting (dry). i don't know how you guys get a gram per watt some sort of hokus pokus unless you mean wet then 1/4 dry thats about 25g per 100 watt... zip per amp.. same. it depends where you live some places just don't grow the herb like that. if your new at this think more like a zip per plant (dry)

if all factors are perfect- light, soil, nutes, water and training methods some plants will yield great. to expect this on your first try is expecting a lot. to expect any auto to yield 3 lbs per plant is to much, they won't do it. if you are growing legally and can put out huge plants in 100 gal + pots a couple lbs is reasonable, to think you will do this guerilla style is not.

there are to many factors to even estimate someone's yield. my first outdoor grows while fun and successful certainly did not yield me lbs per plant.

Hmmmmm you might wanna go with your gut on that one.
A good rule of thumb here is before you go getting excited about some wonderstrain......toss the strain name into the search bar here at RIU.
Don't expect 3lbs/plant unless you really know what you're doing. Especially from an auto. I don't think a yield like that would ever even be possible from an auto.
You can find a lot of people complaining about the strain. Including myself.
So spend the $ and invest in something other than the cheap wonderstrain.

I've pulled 5 units off of a single plant several times but, I don't expect you to get a huge return from an auto.

For sure it takes alot of room to grow 5lb. plants. Most of mine make a pound or so of real nice bud. I grow some sativas that get real big, but it takes a real long season like last year for them to finish real strong. There is way too many things that can effect yeild to estimate a crop outdoors , but a lb a plant is pretty good for indica base plants in my grows----mike
