i grow my best stuff in the winter under the lights. Heirloom tomatoes, raspberries and this year i am going to try and start some apple trees inside and see what happens.

depends on what u really want, bigger plants-wait till april or may.smaller plants go for it now,but either case its now worthless to grow at anytime, just much more beneficial to start in the late mid/late spring

so cal gets nice sun all year round right?, if so i think you could get some kind of product from it, the days don't start getting longer until next year so you have plenty of time to get buds.

it will be no where near as big as buds grown in summer sun but it will give you something.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I just harvested my (2) plants the end of September. I just got me (4) clones yesterday. Since I live in San Diego, the weather is mostly sunny all year. I don't have any lights. I was thinking about putting them into 10 gallon GeoPots to see what it would do.

Probably not get very big and small yield. You risk mold in the rainy season, and extremely likely the plants will never grow big enough to justify using a 10 gallon pot

I grow outside all year in so Cal. If you put a clone out right now it will go straight to flower in the two weeks it takes. If you put a seed out right now it will reach it's 4th node and start to flower. So if your clone isn't very big or you want your seedling to be bigger then 6" You will need some supplemental lighting when the sun goes down Weather it's a cheap CFL or flouresent or just the patio light.. We grow em inside till they are 18 - 24" tall and put them out to flower.

Heres a couple we put out last month. They are a month into flowering. I like small plants and the ease of care.

Heres the ball pen.
