Is it wise to cut the upper leaves during flowering?

and the best part is, I never claimed to be anything. in fact if you continue to dig thru my account you will find i claim over and over again "i suck growing indoors". i've been saying it for years. as far as outdoors, the plants grow themselves. i've always claimed this as well. show me where i say i'm better than anyone here. i bet you can't find that post.

lollipopping removes lower branches that would typically produce small airy buds. by removing the unwanted growth, the plant can focus it's SUPPLIED energy to the tops. key words "supplied energy".

removing all the leaves takes ALL the energy from the WHOLE plant. leaving no leaves to focus energy anywhere.


i don't understand how the stripping of ALL foliage can be compared to controlled pruning of weaker growth. to me there seems to be a huge difference in how and why they are both done.

Well I read through 15 pages and learned nothing except from the sulfur thing. That and I'll never pick a fight with FDD.

you just attacked everything about my growing. i simply pointed out you have mites and mildew and i even offered advice to fix it. check yourself please.

I simply tried to defend my position and provide all this so needed proof everyone was demanding. After 14 pages of being poked and prodded its hard not to getting a little irritated even on a pot forum =)

when i said "your plants look like shit", i was replying to a comment you made about mine. it was more meant at sarcasm then an actual insult. go back and read it. quote it here if you can't figure it out and i'll help explain it again.

you are contradicting your own statements which I find irritating. Why focus the energy to the tops by hacking off the entire lower third of your plant 3 weeks into flower when you yourself stated your buds are just as big below as they are on the top ?? Doesnt add up sorry. What you are not understanding is by removing all the fan leaves which stick out shading other nearby plants you arent coming close to removing "all foilage " Look at my pics again, there are a heck of a lot more small leaves left then I ever cut off. A blooming MJ plant does not ned the big sun leaves the same after 3 weeks of flower as it does in veg and early flower. The benifit far outweighs what little the MJ plant receives from these older light blocking fan leaves. Proof is in the putting and I already proved this long ago with my own pics. MANY others have posted the exact same type of leaf pruning in their SOG grows. Of course those are the guys who also get over a gram per watt and thee arent enough of them posting. you should worry less about what little things you can pick apart from my grow and stay on the topic at hand which is increasing yield by pruning whether by Scrogging, lollipopping and thinning leaves. Buy a tray and get the plants of the cold floor, they will thank you for it. Not to mention off the floor with all that sulfur on it. =) Unplug you fan once a week and plug in a pump to pump out the water waste. This will increase your production. Lollipop or whatever you want to do. Experiment. There is no wrong way or right way to grow just different ways with different results.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Was surprised how many PMS got from people not wanting to post openly about you. Just saying. I doubt there were very many civilians who openly told Hitler he was being a little harsh on the jews =) J/K I am just a dumb stubborn ass who goes against the grain sometimes to stand behind my beliefs.

knowledge is what you know about a how a plant works.

method is how you apply that knowledge.

I'm really surprised that lollypopping is mentioned.

Lollypopping is great for commercial grows where quality is necessity. Especially where that lower growth is used to make clones for the next crop. It also directs excess energy from the roots to the remaining buds.

This differs from removing leaves in effect. Taking sun leaves causes the plant to try to replace them, interfering with the budding process.

With lollypopping, you remove the entire branch, which eliminates the plant's incentive to try to regrow it, because there are no grow sites remaining. Try leaving a node on each lower branch of lollypopped plant, and see how much energy is wasted when the plant tries to restore the branch.

This goes back to my comments regarding transplant stress.(See my recent post in my grow thread.)

In a plant that has suffered root loss, removing entire branches to balance roots and canopy will prevent transplant shock, and eliminate the yellowing and wilting so evident in some of the pictures above.

I wouldn't mention this if I weren't absolutely sure, based on long experience, that these things work.

and all those yellow leaves die and drop off. the branches as well. it seems the plants take care of themselves. but not before they use that stored energy.

Yes, in some cases, the plant will revive and salvage what it can from the damaged foliage.(You were very fortunate that fog, rain and a cool spell arrived at the perfect time.)

Avoiding transplant shock is about avoiding the stress and delay associated with extreme wilting. It does damage. Adjusting the canopy avoids those problems. The minimally stressed plant will continue to grow, regaining its losses and outgrowing its untrimmed stressing sisters.

JMHO, based on a bunch of experience, but my Grandfather turned me on to the idea over fifty years ago, when transplanting pear trees, in his orchard.(I had an idyllic childhood in the Sacramento River Delta. Amazing how things have changed.)

i'm not "fortunate", i'm experienced.
