they are just under a week old, about 1 1/2 inch height. should i stick with the 125W CFL for a couple more weeks at 2" distance. Or move onto the 400W HPS at 30" distance.

??????????????????????????

chill lol.

Yes they can, but try 3 feet and see how they do. Most people do 3+ and some use hps from start to finish. It depends on you, BUT be careful because they can stretch.

hoped that helped

Your HPS will more than likely cause the plants to stretch beyond desire. If you can, get a MH conversion lamp. You will be more than happy with the results.

2.5ft is the furthest i can make it, as thats the height of my grow space. (growing lowryders)

may aswell just stick with the hps now i have it on. 60 days till harvest = $120 for my energy bill. hope atleast 3 are fems.

i thought they only stretch if there isnt enough light, and believe me i cant see shit after looking at the light when its warmed up. lol.

they stretch when the light is too far away, which wouldn't always mean not enough light, just that it's too far away

No they don't not unless they are using a 1,000 watter. My air cooled 400 watt hps is 8 inches away from my plants.

There is absolutely no truth to that statement. Yes MH is the preferable spectrum but they will still veg fine with a HPS, you will not get any stretching as long as you don't move the too ar away.

I didn't say they wouldn't veg fine. I was just stating what I've learned from experience. My hps vegged plants were kinda stretchy, as my MH plants weren't. If there is no truth to my statement, are you saying the grower wouldn't be happier with a MH for veg? Q What is the difference between MH and HPS? A Metal Halide HID lamps have a balanced light spectrum which offers the most natural light output. Metal Halide's balanced spectrum contains the common blue and red wavelengths needed by plants for the most rapid growth. Plants can be grown from start to finish using metal halide lighting systems. Metal Halide lighting promotes leaf growth.

High Pressure Sodium lamps are more efficient than Metal Halide, producing the highest number of lumens per watt - about 10-15% more than a Metal Halide bulb. HPS emits an orange/yellow color that is similar to the sun's spectrum in the mid day. This type of light promotes flower growth. However, the lack of blue spectrum light can sometimes make a plant stretch during the vegetative growth stage. HPS should be used as a supplemental light in your greenhouse or sunroom.

well for people on limited budgets, wouldnt 2 150w hps econ lights and 4 24" fluroecents with 7800k grow lights at the plants side help cut down the vertical palm tree growth?

and make it a more well rounded plant, instead of 2 150w hps alone..?

where did you get the dual spec bulb? My store only carries them in 600 and 1000.
I live in England so i dont know where you would get them in your own country.
If you have the cash though i would recommend using the new 7200k metal halide bulbs for veg and a dual spec 400 watt gro-lux for flowering.
To do this you need a switchable ballast that will accept either kind of bulb.
I have not used the new MH bulbs yet myself but they have glowing reports.:blsmoke:

lads ive got a 600w mh/hps and a 200w envirolite, i was advised to use my 200w envirolite for a couple of weeks 1st just to let the stems get thicker.

being my ahem "first indoor grow" well i fucked my first but what the heck. i cant wait to get the mh booming so if someone can advise me aswell i would be grateful

im sure the bloke i asked said something about the stem being thick enough to get as much water to the plant as is needed cause of the heat and other factors with the mh/hps
