Is it normal for buds to lose smell when harvest and smell like hay?

Bud always seems to smell great while growing them you harvest and it loses smell is it chlorophyll?
Like many suggested, premature harvest can cause but if they are pungent at chop them I think something else.
Do you wet trim? And if so how do dry it?
I’m going disagree with the super long dry and curing. Here’s what works for me and those I share with agree.
All this is done in darkest as possible area. I quickly cut the large fan leaves and hang the largest branches I can on a hanger but anything will obviously work. I like to keep the RH lower than normal 40 - 45 ish I’d say, keep lots of fans circulating and usually the temp is 70-80. This will dry the leaves out pretty quickly and start to dry the bud a bit in the first 3 days or so. After the leaves are crispy but the bud still has little some moisture left - I do the squeeze test. Then I just let them hang at the normal 60 RH for a good week before attempting to trim. Usually I let it hang for 2-3 weeks. But I let em hang like that until ready to consume which will range from 2 weeks to 2 months. The leaves will soften a bit - not crispy anymore- but stem will snap in most spots. I don’t do anything more to them like put in jars etc. The smoke is tasty and incredible smooth. And burns perfectly. After 2 months if anything is left I’ll trim it and freeze in airtight bags.

This is great it works for you. Really is. But it’s all the wrong ways to teach someone originally You want people to learn the right way first. That way they have a platform to start drying or curing their own way. Essp if he wants sponge buds and not crispy ass glass buds.

Crazy how different people's own techniques are and they a swear blind its the best way.. I think experience is the biggest factor and there's so many ways to skin the cat..

Harvest when done. Don't go by just the trichomes using some unnecessary USB microscope. If you do that you're likely harvesting too soon. Trichomes are not as reliable as some people think. Many of us don't even look at the trichomes.

Harvest, slow dry for 10-14 days, jar, smoke. I don't cure myself. I don't like old weed. I start smoking as soon as the girls are dry and fresh.

I cure about 2 ounces of each strain. This year only a few. I don’t wanna burp everything Only a few lol. So I cure my best buds and the rest I dry and jar. Nobody seems to tell the difference. Well. I can.

Yeah whatever work fir ya. But I think you didn’t read it right. These ain’t crisp buds. I keep RH low and lots of air flow for about first 3 days. This only allows the leaves to get a crisp. The buds are moist and not dry yet. This is key to make sure nothing unwanted gets a foothold. Once the RH is raised the moisture is drawn out of the bud and stem and into the leaves thus equalizing the moisture content. From there it’s a slow dry for at least 2 weeks. Up to this point but the process is proven and effective. And not sure how differs in the science from the other methods.
The whole curing debate I won’t opine. To each his own. Imho it doesn’t play as important a role in smell.

So you do put you buds in a jar after you dry them? Or you have a room that the rh remains 60%? I’m confused? I know how weed drys. But after it’s dry. What do you do? I’m reading that you do use jars. But I nights off slipped that sentence.

I’m lazy and it just so happens that the final hanging room RH is like IDK 60 - 65 or whatever seems to be like big natural curing jar. Just dumb luck I guess.

No. Not dumb luck. Awesome luck.
that’s how most of our grow facilities cure.
it’s still packaged But it’s in an area that’s dialed in still. I wish I could come close to drying and curing my outdoor like that.

Super cold (60s) super high humidity (60s) for super long (over a week) and you are golden. Stems snapping is bad advice. I jar as soon as the bud goes through the holes in a grinder , method is fool proof.
They are pliable but when denugging you can break many of the moist feeling stems. It’s from the curing process. But yeah if your stem snap and trichome dust comes off that’s bad.
Seems people haven’t cured before. I do cure just not in jars. Cause most the stem should be breakable or it ain’t done.

I would say when the branches make a snapping sound is when ready. But it seems like a misconception they should snap in half like a pencil .

I’m pretty sure putting them in jars is a pretty important step
mine doesn't touch a glass jar I use food grade 4 gal barrels but I'm sure some people will swear by glass, I remember people used to put in brown paper bags that was a normal thing but not sure if anyone does that anymore.

Yes very common…..it’s all abaout the hang dry and cure……..that’s how u get it back…….the pros hang dry 14 days at 60%rh and 60-64f…..then cure 12 weeks at 62-58%rh in sealed container in a dark room that’s kept at 64-68f
No "pros" are letting their product sit for 3.5 months before going out to consumers, unless no one is buying their product to begin with.
