Is it ever a good idea to cut fan leaves? I am LST'ing and if I could only cut one big fan leaf off it would get me a lot of light to a spot where I have very little light. I have tried to move it out of the way but cant get it over far enough to let the light hit where I want without tucking it under a branch and cutting light to the fan leaf.

I guess I am asking if it would be better to cut that fan leaf, or tuck it under the branch where it won't get much light but is still there? Hope that is making sense lol :eyesmoke:

There are 2 totally (and extreem) different schools of though on this.
Me? I'm always cutting fans with good results. But I prefer to call it Pruning - LOL.
Do a search on defoliating on google and here.

I'll betcha',, this is going to become another (heated) debate when folks start to reply. ;-)

Go ahead and cut it, won't make much difference. Were talking one leaf here, not getting the chain saw out.

I feel like more light passes through the leaves than you can see. I say let that fat ole leaf absorb all the light it wants until your plant chooses to let him go.

if its only one or 2 then no real problems are gonna happen, the plant will have plenty more leaves to capture light.other leaves may grow quicker as a result.u could try just tucking it below other growth though.
