Is, getting a little run off every time I water going to achieve a much leaching as 1 or 2 big flushes would?

I grow in 100% coco and almost never water until runoff and have had 0 issues in 10 years. Once a week I will use plain water though. I also use shitty tap water for my feedings and no issues. PPM out of faucet is 250 with chlorine and chloramine, I pH it right and no issues.

Don't overthink shit. Plants in the wild get some pretty shit water and none of them are drinking RO.
I never use runoff in my VEG and all the plants look perfect and in my bloom room I have one row with runoff trays and one row with no runoff and the plants with no runoff look better than the plants with runoff. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I understand the idea of balanced nutrition, less risk of buildup etc but honestly pH stability has been better in the pots that get no runoff and running the products armor si, calimagic & maxibloom I have no issues with buildup or lockout, one issue I have is actually pH crash in the plants that are receiving runoff interestingly enough.

I use RO water so maybe that helps contribute to not having scale/salt buildup in the rootzone? again, idk just saying what I see is true.

I rinse, sift and double-buffer my coco with Cal-Mag before I use it and I've never had any cation exchange issues. I use Cal-Mag, GH Flora (micro and bloom only) and Floralicious Plus. This is the first time I've used Floralicious Plus and I believe it has definitely increased yield from my other grows of the same strain. A little bottle goes a long way too.

If salts do build up, they don't seem to harm my plants at all. If I get run-off, it's a dribble here and there but usually I get none as I know how much water to use. I've watered with run-off and without and never had a difference so I just quit with run-off. I also use plain white vinegar to lower pH which many say never to do — I have had zero issues with it.

Towards the end of flower once the buds look ready, I reduce light intensity, lower temperature, lower humidity and use plain water with no run-off until the leaves fade and I chop after a week or two of that. I find if I don't reduce the light intensity and nutrients, I get foxtailing and seems the buds will never finish even though they're dense and heavy. I don't want to risk self-pollenation also.

Is there a specific issue you're trying to fix?
What are the details of your grow (medium, irrigation, environment, etc.)?
Are you monitoring the ec and ph or your input, and your runoff (in the case of runoff)?
There was a specific issue. I was growing in fox farm soil and using their nutrients and watering by hand. I had a couple great grows but when I changed from bottled spring water to a local spring that we drink I started getting issues that I tracked back to be lock out due to salt build up. I'm still trying to learn the particulars of how all that works, but I am very confident that's what was going on. I recovered them by flushing. On this grow I'm cutting the spring water with 50% ro water and was going to make sure I water to run off. Instead of doing a bigger flush once or twice. I don't measure ec in feed or runoff. I bought a ec pen and started measuring but I really just follow fox farms feeding schedule so I didn't get too much from it.

I should say this is my last grow in this medium and with these nutrients. I've got a "living soil" cooking now and am going that route.

It's prob true about the ro water. I was using very hard spring water. I got the water analyzed and it had decently high levels of salt concentration.

So if you're not watering to runoff, how do you not get a build up of unused nutes? If would have to throw the balance off, no?
Yeah that's exactly what happened. I just started growing last year. I heard that I need to flush and that with fox farm I don't need to flush. But I do have to.

I've noticed that when I start to see runoff there is a big EC spike for a few seconds and then it quickly lowers. So if you're not flushing that out then it's probably going to build up over time.

Ahh... I'm in coco. Totally different.
This last run I used fox farm coco loco and really like it. But I've been learning about "living soil" and am going to give it a try.

Dude i haven't thought about spy vs spy in a long fucking time. Haha. I can't remember if it was a comic or a show. I just looked it up, it said it was a comic but I swear I remember little shorts that would come on during some show.

I used to grow in living soil. I would still, but I grow big plants, and you need a large soil volume, for a large plant. Good luck with it.

Spy vs spy was in mad magazine. I think they showed clips on mad tv.
