Hey everyone,

I have a friend trying to talk me into using promix together with Ocean forest and I cant see why its a good idea. It seems like it would be better to use straight FFOF. This is my first grow and I just want to get some good product, so if it needs to be mixed with something I'm game, but I wanna do whats best.

Any advice is needed and appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello, I am currently using 1part fox farm to 1part roots 707, 2 parts promix, plus some added coarse perlite, with a top dressing of wormcastings. I've grown in straight FFOF before, and it's a very nutrient rich, heavy, slow drying soil. I like it, but I want to have a little more control of the nutes, I want something that dries out faster, and if you're using big containers, the nutrients in it will last a very long time, which means you will have to feed less and less frequently. My only complaint so far with my current method is that Im having a hard time dialing in the PH. I watered once with a ph of 8.4, (from past experience I never had to adjust my ph with straight FFOF, but the promix is technically "soilless", and from what I've been able to gather, I need to ph my solution lower, even though I'm using organic nutrient. My last feeding was at 6.4, and I think they still want it lower.

Most all bagged potting mixes are technically soil-less.

You really don't need to pH anything. Dolomitic limestone or some other form of lime such as oyster or eggshell should be added (not matter what the brand is) at between 1 and 2 heaping tbsp per gallon, depending on your water source.

I like to mix Ocean Forest with Sunshine Advanced Mix#4. The OF is very rich and has a high organic matter content. The SAM#4 has coco coir, and it has mycorrhizae (symbiotic fungi).
