Is Demonic Possession Real or Psychiatric?

I can't seem to come to terms about this condition. I have read so many articles and they are all very inconclusive. Many physicians dismiss Demonic possession as nothing more that a psychiatric condition. Then there are some that say it is in fact a real situation. I'm conflicted because of the references to telekinesis and levitation the rest of the symptoms have my wanting to call it a psychiatric problem. Physicians have studied Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) which is formerly known as multiple personalities. 29% of the altered personalities named themselves as Demons. Then there is Tourettes Syndrome which is also misclassified as Demonic Possession because of the sudden movements.

I truly believe in the supernatural, but I'm not sure if a malevolent supernatural being or spirit could totally take over someone and make them wacked out.

Thoughts?

Nothing supernatural has ever been proven. Every single time a supernatural claim has been investigated, it has turned out to be a fraud or those involved were innocently mistaken. For years there has been a million dollar prize by the Amazing Randi waiting for anyone to demonstrate anything supernatural, yet that prize remains unclaimed. Mental illness often gravitates toward religious ideas and dogma (we have a current thread going in this sub-forum where a bi-polar schizophrenic believes he is the messiah come again to save us all), so it's no surprise that mentally ill people would claim these religious figures as the identities of their alternate personalities...

Let me guess, you believe in ghosts too? It's funny, the only people i have ever met who believe in ghosts are those that instead of investigating the noise to figure out what made it... make and assumption and fearfully run away.

It's real for those who believe in Christianity.
Any religion has it prizes and penalties.
Many people don't believe in anything and they will live and die being nothing.

What pussies! I've investigated every time I had a ghostly encounter. Have yet to see one become visible, that would be some freaky shit yet I'd still approach it.

The worst part about assuming a strange noise is a ghost is that most people also assume there is nothing more to learn than that. The worst part about assuming a strange noise is not a ghost is most people also assume there is nothing more to learn than that. The best part about hearing a strange noise is the chance to investigate.

Yeah i had a pocket full of change and i set it on the counter in a pile, an hour later the change pile collapsed next to me...ghost?!?!?! Probably not... it was probably the vibration from either me or someone else in the house.

This is exactly like starting an argument as to whether or not God exists or if there is some sort of 'afterlife" etc..

In order for anyone to believe in demonic posession- they have to be religious and believe in Heaven and Hell, God and the Devil etc...

For those who do not believe in these things, they are of course going to say it is a psychiatric or medical condition (like Turrets Syndrome) For which many people were torured and killed for in the belief that they were possesed.

Then there are your devout - who believe that even those physical/psychiatric conditions are caused by Satan and are therefore a type of possession...

And you have your fence-sitters.. they know there are both physical and mental illnesses that can cause these things and can be controlled/ured by medicine-- and some that can not... but that there are also some conditions that just totally baffle the doctors-- so are automatically deemed a "psychiatric condition"... those could be contributed to demonic posession IF they are able to be CURED by an exorcism..

THAT SAID: An exorcism usually works because usually the "possessed" is religious and believes what they are being told about their condition.... so a sort of "faith healing" occurs because of beliefs (hey- they are strong- and can do some amazing shit!)

HOWEVER: Unless any of us has actually DIED and came back with memories (and even that can be and is questioned by the medical field) who can say what is real or what is not?

Everyone has their own beliefs and that is not easily dissuaded by people with beliefs that differ....

So are you a firm believer in Demonic Possession?

Nope- I am a firm believer in the fact that humans do not and never will know or understand everything-- and we can't automatically write-off everything we do not understand...

Hell- for a long time, Mormons didn't believe in the science behind magnets !

I also believe that there are things that science can not explain- doesn't mean it is "magic" or that it is "Demons"... just that we humans do not "get it" ...yet...

How do we know we won't somehow get proof of another dimension or other state of consciousness someday that will explain "Ghosts" and "Demons" and "Life after death"??

We don't--

just like the Europeans didn't "get it" that the Ships that didn't come home from exploration didn't "fall over the edge" of the earth because they didn't understand the concept of a horizon???

Demonic possession is certainly real.
I have seen demons screaming out of people, and i have seen people nearly completely levitating when demons were being cast out of them.
The only power over demons comes from Jesus Christ.
Say Jesus save me, gain power over demons and receive the Holy Spirit and eternal life.

Believe in the Lord Jesus and be saved.

True. But to be fair, neither do YT videos...
So what are your thought of the lady that is possessed by a Jinn? On the youtube reviews some say she's acting that way to avoid an arranged wedding. Would you act this way to avoid marriage?
