is deep water culture hard to use

Bigger pots = let plants per foot. I guess I want my cake and eat it too.

I am looking at making a light tight cover for the tray with cut outs for the containers pre cut into it. I do to much shuffling around to try and mylar them in and since it is perpetual I do not want Hydroton or a mat in the bottom of the tray.

How do you keep the algea from growing in the top of your tray? That seems to be one of my sticking points. You know how it goes..... You have a problem you can't figure out and you get tempted to chuck the whole thing.

If you can not get black buckets or you can cover it with something.

Black is not a comon color for consumer buckets. If you have access to companies like MSC or Grainger they may have them.

ok bro i will give them a try but gota find them cant do it with clear buckets coz of like you just said the algie! :cry:

H2O2, 35% (food grade). 1mL/gallon once a week - kills anything that's alive in your system.

You can buy any color buckets and use aluminum duct tape - I did this for about 40 buckets before I changed over.

You could also use black spray paint.

does root size really matter the same in hydro as it does for soil? the roots in hydro are pretty much bathed in food when plants in soil have to work hard to establish a root system so that they will have room to take in food. i guess this is especially true for DWC because the roots just float in water but with E&F they still recieve perfect amounts of food, and oxygen. the problem with algea growing might be fixed by adding more hydroton to the top of the table or lowering the overfil line on the table so it wont reach the top.

Roots can only absorb so much nutes. One inch of roots can not absorb as much nutes as 2 inches. Does hat make since?

I know the problem with hydro is not root bounding so much.

I am have good results, but the roots only fill the grow containers. I am finding blocking the light to the tray to be problematic.

watering more times per day increases the root mat that the rockwool sits on top of. 7x on E&F came out lovely!
