I'm just curious, what actual growing experience (in years, not grows) do you all have? I have my doubts, and I need reassurance.
Is actual GROWING experience a requirement to be a moderator?

I'm 5 weeks away from harvesting my first grow. It got seeded and I'm going to consider it an epic fail but continue on with it nonetheless and make some hash.

Well, I'm just that good, one post and I know it all... ha ha!
Actually I HAD about 1700 or so, but The Hackening wiped out my count. I'd say check out my sig and see my grow, but the final harvest pics were wiped out...

As long as the MODS are moderating the website, trolls, and abuse by members then they are doing their job. Just because they are MODS doesn't mean they have to know about growing. You would think they should since this is a grow forum but who cares if the modes in T&T actually know anything about growing. Just my opinion.

True, but I didn't post this question in T&T, but here in MJ Growing, where I would like to believe that, since they are "moderating", part of the job description would include fact checking on some of the horrible advice that is sometimes given out, or even their own advice.
I can easily guess which ones do and do not, but I want to be proven wrong, lol.

I had that image verification for a minute last week but now I don't have to do it anymore. Strange. The T&T thing was just an example. Calm down.
I think they are just supposed to moderate us from killing eachother.
It is our job to moderate the information. You are not just supposed to take the first answer that comes to you. If it's bad advice then other members will come in and post behind that person showing that it is bad info. I don't understand how a mod who doesn't grow would want to mod a thread about growing. That would be boring as shit.

If you are a moderator, can you please verify how much growing experience you have, if any, so that I, and others, may gauge the value of your input on the topic of growing in the MJ forums?

I've modded on a few sites and am an admin currently on that me and a buddy started a few years ago.
My experience in a nutshell on another site :
Being a mod/admin sucks. People complain constantly, talk about you behind your back and you deal with constant drama from people. Keep in mind, there's really only #1 main rule we enforce on that site, which is don't link to people similar sites (we're a niche social network with a webcam chat).
I have people complaining that we're ban freaks when we've banned about 4-5 people for doing exactly that in the last 3 or so months.
There's only 2 other admins, no other mods on this site. Of us 3, I'm the only one regularly on, the other competent admin is the owner of the site but has a sketch-net so in most cases I have to make day to day decisions. The funny thing is people go around my back and complain to the other two admins, one of which who is not mentally competent. The other admin (owner) is awesome but he has a life, a full time and part time job, he shouldn't be bothered considering he only has enough to get on maybe 10 minutes a day. Most of the time people complain to the two others because they KNOW they can get away with telling half truths.
Thats the tip of the iceburg. I have people constantly trying to suck up to me to get mod, people talking shit because I don't give them mod. People trying to start site wars with each other to get others banned. As much as people complain they want mod, none of them do the only thing they're supposed to do which is delete chinese/arab/mexican spam and accounts. They just want it so they can ban people, and that they're unbannable.
I'm kind of venting here, but seriously, I fucking hate being admin and having to deal with peoples crap. The only reason I do it is because the owner is my friend and has helped me out A LOT in the past.
Just my perspective, pretty off topic though.

I've been an owner, mod, and admin at multiple vBulletin sites, and in my experience the most effective mods are the ones who are passionate about the subject at hand. As such, mods are typically knowledgeable in their field, but not always as much as the general membership of the forum may believe. Take that for whatever it's worth to ya.

Well, I certainly understand where you are coming from, and I have seen those same tendencies here to the same extent, especially the "mentally incompetent" and "I can't be banned, Ima sic my wanna-be Goon Squad on you, so I can ban you" versions of the moderator, rather than a true moderator (you know, the dude whose not supposed to take sides or start drama), but there are those rare few that are dedicated, take the role seriously, and carry the burden of responsibility, for whom I have the utmost respect and give my thanks.
Having said that, I wish the rest would read the definition below, and not offer advice <cough bullshat cough> on a subject they know nothing about other than what they have read on the forums, or start drama for the sake of getting the attention they did not receive as a child.

To be fair, that definition isn't applicable to internet forum moderators. It's intended for live real in-person moderators.
Forum Moderator - A member of an internet based group forum who has elevated privileges, including but nor limited to: the ability to modify, move, and delete posts or threads, issue infractions, ban members, and close threads. Typically a moderator is responsible for upholding the forum rules, and removing spam on a daily basis.

oh and for my first post... I missed the word " moderator" I thought you were just asking everyone... I sometimes give advice on obvious questions in the plant help so I figured I would give my experience.... but I'm not moderator
I have another question for the Mods. Am I allowed to post links to other growing forums? I've got the impression that I'm not allowed to but I haven't seen anyone specifically state that it's not allowed. It can be handy sharing links from ICmag and others sometimes when sharing information. Just wondering if that could get me banned?
