is 4 1000 watt hps too much for a 11x12 area?

I have 4 1000 watt lumatek digitals with 2 6 foot cool tubes. Would it be too much to run all 4 in a room that is about 11x12 The room is underground so it stays relatively cool and i have a 9500 btu ac and Co2 so i can run a bit hotter. I plan to use a 450 cfm intake fan and a 750 cfm exaust fan to run both tubes. One thing is that i dont have central air but i live in the mountains so it is pretty cool at night. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

you will need a min of 14k in btu's for cooling. I believe the ratio is 3500 btu's of cooling per 1k bulb.

if your blowing outside air right through your tubes, and venting the tube air back outside also ,, your fine dude.. That ac will pick up the slack heat. If possible put your tube fans outside, or have them inside, in a sealed box, with a vent hose sucking from outside attached to it for the induction, so that way it wont smell

awesome thanks for the help. That is how i have it set up taking cold air from outside and blowing it back out. Also i am using insulated ducting for the tubes and i am mounting the ballast outside of the room. thanks again

They should rock that size area. And room that size full of flowering plants. Its gonna stink! Better start planning on that also.

You could get by with 12,000 btu air conditioning but barely (with cool temps you can keep it down to 80 with lights on).

18,000 would be better though.

I have a 1700 cfm 12 inch fan and carbon filter for the smell. I have 2 questions about that actually.
1) If i just run the filter in the room scrubbing air and i dont vent it outside will that kill the smell? I figure the 1700 cfm fan will exchange the air every couple of minutes.

2) do i have to build vent boxes on the fans leading to/from the cool tubes to keep them air tight if they are in the room?

I guess only time will tell if the 9500 btu will work...maby ill just upgrade to an 1100 though because i will be keeping it with ballasts in a completly seperate room that will be basically sealed from the grow so i wont be able to access it easily. Sometimes i wish this shit came with a set of directions!

If you have a beefy Can filter scrubbing the room internally, it'll help with the smell, but unless you have a perfect seal, it will not eliminate it entirely. Once the dank sets in, it will slowly permiate the space outside your grow room. A combination of ONA gel and a Ozone generator will help.

I've used Ona and it works in the beginning but the room definitely over powers it eventually. Now I use the Ona bucket for when i'm smoking, just in case unwanted visitors show up. Ona works great for eliminating pot smoke. The ultimate in odor control is the Vaportek 4000, they use it to eliminate the smell in disaster areas, decomposing bodies, and after fires. It has no harmful vapors and it kills the odors it doesn't mask. The unit is small and makes no noise. By far the best investment i've made. Complete peace of mind no smell.

I would say that a 12 inch 1700 cfm fan is pretty beefy for a 10 x 10 right? I am doing a room within a room design and the entire room is bagged in bi sided poly. I am thinking of going with rmax for the walls and getting a home depot door. Also the windows are rmaxed with foil tape and then poly over them. I dont know it it is 100% sealed but i am pretty sure i will have it 95%. My setup is leagle but i just dont want any hassles from the neighbors. I was gonna vent the carbon filter outside but it will eliminate all my co2 in less than 5 min.

ok so i think i am gonna use the attached half bath as an air exchange room. Ill just put the carbon filter and fan inside the bathroom and then have a variable speed controll on the outside of the bath for the fan. Then i am going to duct the exaust from the cool tubes and ac into the bath and have the fat boy carbon filter suck it all out. Does it sound like i am on the right track? Sorry but i am from the east coast and there we dont have basements so we just cut holes in the ceiling for whatever. I have to learn to think laterally i guess haha. any help is appreciated.

I would keep your plan to vent the tubes outside still. Put the filter in your room, vent it into the bathroom, but also have another hole cut in the bathroom, about 6 inches, that will draw some air back in, so you can create a vacuum , without losing your co2. Seal your room really well, run your can fan 25/7 , also you should add a de-humidifier, and run it when your lights are off. that way you dont need to intake or exhaust. Trust me, you can grow really well this way. Evryone thinks you need to intake and exhaust, but you dont. with co2, de-humidifier and your a/c unit , your babys will love that air
