the problem with making blanket statements like "intolerance is the real evil" is that they inevitably leads to such idiocy as the idea we should be intolerant of intolerance. i'm sure that sounded better in the poster's mind, but its ridiculous nature becomes obvious when it is broken down into its simplest form. like "hating hatred" and "stomping out violence", such concepts only serve to perpetuate the evils they propose to combat.
there are plenty of things we simply shouldn't tolerate. foremost among them are ignorance and the misconceptions that lead us to discriminate against those who are "different". while the destructive nature of avarice, envy and hatred may be bent to some beneficial purpose, ignorance serves only as a stumbling block to our every endeavor. while even intolerance may even be of some use, our misconceptions, whether they are willful or otherwise, continually lead our better natures astray.
