intake or exaust

well today i turned the fan around and... the teom is about 105 f and before when it was in intake it was around 95 sooo... shit, i have no idea what to do, and the frozen galon of watter in front of the fan did nothing.

and the exaust would be going directly into my bedroom but w/e not to worried about that.

i really wish there was something els to do...

i think i'm just about to break down and fuck the door up (figuratively). and just buy a new one to leave in the apt when i move out (should be hear a couple of years so w/e)

ok so hear is a new question; after i make an intake... should i run ducting to the celing so it can pull out the hot air up there or just leave it at about mid point where it is now? and will i need ducting for the intake other than what i will be using to attach the door to the inline fan? if so where should i place the end of the intake ducting? next to the plants? mid point in the room? or near the floor?

thats what i'm saying, i'm going to "break down" (mentaly speaking) and put a hole in the door. and just replace the door when i move.

do you know the answer to my question above your post there?

any help is appreciated

ok so i feel like a dumb ass... i have read the faq in the past but i guess i didn't remember the part about the passive intake... but should i still attach ducting to the intake and make the cool air come in in a perticular place?

Not a pro, but this is the basics of ventilation and does not have a thing to do with growing. In every ventilation system. It must have an intake AND an exhaust. It must recycle the air to do anything at all. Look at your home AC/heater. What do you think those vents are that always seem to be sucking air in, and those others blowing out? Its the exhaust pulling the old air out.

lol i think were a little beyond this...

but thanks for the input any way.

so i cut the hole and tomorrow i'm going to go get another inline fan to add to the one i have so i will have around 380-400 cfm blowing out which will change the entire cubic air space 2 times a minute

uh i did...

but anyway, i cut the big ass hole in my door and made the fan an exaust but it's still hot as fuck in there so after all this talking and now i destroyed the door, i'ts still not good enough... so what the fuck can i do?

Ok, calm down. I have a 400w MH in my growbox 3'X2'X6' and my temps are roughly mid-80s. This with a crappy little computer fan (80 CFMs) as an exhaust with some ducting running out of the growbox. I accomplish this with 2 fans right outside the door of the box. I point an oscillating one right at the light and the other stationary one I point at the top of the plants. I leave the door ajar, obviously. As an alternative, if there is an AC vent close by, you can run some ducting from the vent to the grow area.

BTW, I plan on improving my exhaust this weekend. I received my 152 CFM fan today. I will vent into the attic and out the roof.

do you use a closet or a homemade grow box?

i almost wish my area was as small as that,(almost) but my area is 6' by 7' by 8'. it's troubling me alot ;(

I dont know squat about growing but if I was you I would;

Cut a 6" hole in the bottom of the door, place a cheap inline booster and 6 feet of duct to the back of the closet on the floor. Buy an osclating fan and place it in the back of the closet blowing out. Cut another 6" hole in the top of the door and add another cheap inline booster. All the boosters would be on the inside, with the some effort you could be a little stealth.

You should consider the SMELL I dont see any mention of venting outside.

i'm not going to vent outside, that would be very sketchy. it vents into my bedroom.

i decided that since the 6 inch passive intake isnt doing the trick i'm going to get a 12" booster rated at 600 or so cfm and cut another hole into my door thats 12" and use that as an exaust, and make the passive intake hole alot bigger (12"-13") and just use the 6 inch one for my veg box. i pray that this will work.

My grow-box is a store bought (HD) closet. You said your space is too big? Why not partition off a section? You'll need some plywood ceiling to floor and a couple joints (not the smokable kind) but that wouldn't run you too much $. Good luck.

well after i get the 12 inch booster rated at 500 cfm(i think that is what it says, but its around there) if that doesn't work i will have to section some of it off I'm thinking the 2-3 feet of the celing. that should cut it down to about 200 cf. but hopefully it will not come to that.

i'm using a closet as well. the way i got around the door problem was making a drop cloth from 2 layers of heavy black plastic and spray mounted mylar on the inside. when the light is on the door is open and the drop cloth is rolled up. i have 2 fans inside the closet and a large box fan on the floor blowing towards the plants. i also have the window blacked out so you can't see the light and when the light does go off its pitch black in the room. then you go in and put the drop cloth down before turning any lights on keeping with the 12/12 schedule. i'm on my second grow with this method. seems like a pain, but i didn't have to cut a hole in the door. it works well because when i come home from work i have an hour or so to do the daily checks then its lights off and doesn't interfere with things like sleep.

Try getting a regular fan and placing it right below the lights, aiming it as much toward the exhaust fan as possible. This will carry the hottest air out first.

That is your answer from someone who has been there with a 600w HPS. There is no shame in giving up and selling everything on Ebay and going smaller I would bet $100.00 with 4 of those 6" Suncourt fans, 2 for a second circuit (enclosed reflector), 2 for intake/exhaust you couldnt get the temp to 85.

You will also have to think about SMELL. I remember when I was in college our landlord could smell our mess one story up and 2 over.

Wow everyone be talking about smell.

Even if the ducting did lead to the outside of the door
into a bedroom wouldn't the fan like circulate the air and
minimize the smell?

I mean with a couple plants say
about 6 of them,
they couldn't possibly stink up the hole house.

Could they?

Lol i had 1 plant in my gust bedroom and it stunk up my house but i didn't have ventilation and could you not just make yourself a filter? to kill some of the smell and i seen someone say about the ac units sucking air out of your house where this this happen? could you not put the exaust there?
