Insect and Animal Threats to Outdoor Plants

I know outdoor growing doesn't seem to be very popular but indoor isn't a possibility for me and I was wondering what the most common problems are with outdoor weed plants? I found a good site that I don't think will attract attention but I hear gnats and insects around it when I walk into the grassy area I was planning on growing at. And when I got back into my car I found two tics on my leg! Anyway this is all a good reason why people would never want to go near my spot but I was wondering what the biggest concern would be for my plants. Like are there common infestations I should be aware of or anything like that? If it helps I walk through a corn farm to get to this area.

Can simple bug spray prevent any bugs looking to hit the pipe from devouring my 2 week old seedlings? Or are there better options?

I was gonna post this in the Marijuana Plant Problems forum but since I haven't actually had any problems yet I decided to just ask here.

They make some stuff called "Safer" Brand bug spray that would work great for what you are talking about. They sell it at garden and hardware stores for $7.99/bottle. Good stuff! It made short work of the fungus gnats that I had on my last grow.
The stuffs actually for edible plants so it works real well with herb. As far as deer n other animals there is a buttload of animal deterrent stuff but you would have to search it. Ive never had to use. it.

To keep most animals away, take a leak somewhere around the plot.
Not ON your plants, of course, lol.

I haven't had much trouble with bug infestations. The couple times I did, and I'm not recommending you do this, was to hang a Hot Shots No Pest Strip off one of the branches, and then cover the plant(s) with clear plastic bags to keep the fumes in. After a couple days, remove the bags and NPS's.
It's what I've been doing for MANY years and works EVERY time.
The only reason I'm not recommending that you do this is to stop the thread hijack that will come if I do.
The NPS's are poisonous, but most pesticides are. Read the label and make the final decision yourself.

As for catapillers and other leaf eating insects, well, that's tough. Anything that is applied to the soil around the plant to deter them doesn't last long, and there's a possibility it will be absorbed by the roots.
My answer to that problem is to have many different locations, just in case one or two get's f'd up, the rest'll be OK.
That's just the way I, myself, do things.

Soil can be an issue too. Unless you're planning to bring your own soil, get to know the soil you'll be planting in.
If you plant in a geographical area with hardwoods like Maple trees and Oaks, and soft woods like pine/fir trees, you'll have acidic soil. You'll need to use a soil amendment like lime to sweeten it.

Deer are sons a bitches in my area. If you stealth grow in a tree that makes it less likely to get eaten, or get caught for that matter. Look into tree idea and no one really looks up that much anyway.
