Will you be exhausting into a carbon filter?
I don't know what that means. I might have to vent my closet, I've never before grown weed so I have no idea what that SMELL is like during flower.

If I absolutely HAVE to buy a fan/filter for the smell, I might as well get a tent too. I was trying to avoid doing so. But the tent will be for my Mars Hydro TSL 2000 growlight, which is good for a space of up to 2x4.

Would a fan/filter combo for a 2x4 growtent even help in a closet space that's like 8/12 feet high and 7 feet long?

If you are venting back into the house, you will definately need a filter/ fan set up. 4" fan with filtershould be a minimum 200 CFM, 6" set up 350 CFM. That will be a good starting point.

Roz is right 4” is what you want.

You will need one more fan inside the tent besides the exhaust fan. You want a fan that is hitting the canopy of the leaves. I would suggest a little 6”o r8” fan. Tower fans work fine too. I think a/c affinity sells a clip on fan. It clips onto the poles of your tent.

Bob, how much air exchange fir cleaning air and how much you need to maintain the right temperature range are different things.

Most of us need to vent that hot air out to maintain grow room temperature for happy plants, this also exchanges old air with depleted co2 with new air, also removes humidity.

How much air you exchange to keep your environment depends on your ambient air temperature mostly. If your in hot , cold or in-between the requirements will be different.

There's no one size fits all because we all live in different parts of the world.

Now if your planning on using AC and dehumidifiers and adding co2 to this small grow to control all those environmental variables then that's a different kettle of fish. Then your just using your fan for scrubbing

I suggest get a 6'' fan and buy a 2x4 tent that has 6'' vent holes.
4'' is minimum and enough in theory, but you're gonna have to run it at full power, it's gonna be loud and possibly shorten the lifespan if working 24/7. And a 4'' might not be enough at removing heat and humidity depending on your environment. Especially with a carbon filter and ducting with bendings which lower the volume of air.
However, with a 6'' fan you can run it on less power, it will be quieter and work for longer, and you always have that extra capacity if it gets too hot and humid. And you can get a bigger filter to completely remove the smell. Just make sure to match the air capacity of the fan and filter. The filter can have a bit larger capacity, but not less than the fan.

I run a 6'' fan in a 2x2 tent, and i have to set it at almost half speed to fully control the environment. And it's still a few degrees warmer in tent, and about 5-10% more humid than the lung room. And that's with Migro Aray LED, which runs extremely cool comparing to other lights.
Mars Hydro gets pretty hot like a toaster on max wattage, at least in my case it was getting hot and smelled like burning electronics.
6'' fan is not much more expensive than a 4'', it's worth it.
