Infared Cameras and helicoptors?

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone has pics of police helicopters spotting weed on the ground using infrared cameras. Ive seen it to where they can see you growing because of excessive heat. But from what I heard awhile back is that weed is a little hotter at night than the surrounding plants. Is this true? does anyone have pics? Anyone have a thermal camera to compare regular plants to weed? Or is it just all smoke?

Im very intrigued to see what sort of replies this thread draws, because to me, a relative layman, that sounds like an absurd idea. A camera that distinguishes weed plants from normal plants at night - hell, il buy one and become nocturnal

If you like the question bump it or give me some rep. I really would like to know. Thermal cameras cost at least 3000$ so i wont be getting one n e time soon. HVAC and firefighters usually have one to check for heat leaks and fires. Really it is a serious question ive been pondering for quite sometime.

I dont think the plants would be hotter because ive watched videos of what police look for while looking for grows and thy look near rivers for trails leading, garbage left out, and cleared space becaus ethats where the plant is most likely to be.

He is i guess you could say a Marijuana Activist and helps pople not get caught my the police.

i feel like if that ever would happen it would be in a notorious pot growing area (green triangle in cali or whatever for example)

and it wouldn't be enough to prosecute on, only to build onto other evidence.

I see nothing in that picture that says anything about cannabis, having a light in your attic is not illegal as far as i know...

Marijuana plants give off the same heat signature as ferns do. They are a higher temperature than most foilage because of coloring dark indicas. They are the same thing as solar panels.

However at night this would make no difference and thermal cameras are not effective during the night except on indoor grow ops.(Plants only give off heat durign the day) The main problem with that is because of heat from lights not the plants.

Most outdoor grows are spotted visually and that is a fact. They don't have to use high tech equipment to spot large grow which are what they are looking for or its not worth the time.

You could never obtain a warrant on a hot spot on a house. They use them to spot grows than they steal your garbage for real evidence. So don't throw your shit out. Once your garbage is on the curb anyone can take it, even the cops legally and use it for evidence to get a warrant. no knock boooooom 2 in the morning hello. lol

Your question intrigued me, and I've got some thermal goggles. So I went out to my greenhouse tonight to see what I could see. After looking around I can't see any difference between my MJ plants and all my regular plants. Though all the plants, MJ and non MJ, in the greenhouse are warmer than the plants outside of it-- to be expected since the greenhouse is closed up and retaining some heat. I've never heard of MJ getting hotter at night-- if only there was a thermometer you could stick into the plant without killing it!

Someone else might have better info, but I hope that helps somewhat-- I was curious myself. I also got some questionable looks from my wife walking around with those goggles! Cheers bud.

wow nice question. i dont think itd work that way. even if it does grow hotter than other plants a helicopter would probably be only able to pick up a reallyy large grow...
but now u got me paranoid and next time i hear choppers i might hide in a freezer

Dubious06 what kind of thermal goggles do you have? I have night vision here but not infrared. Would like to know your setup. Also anyone else that can produce a picture? and please rep me if you can. Ive been here awhile. Would like the status after my whole grow blog and actually asking a original question.

Most of the information out there regarding the police's eqipment regarding spotting grow's is nothing more than propagander.Some of it is true but has for cannabis been hotter in a out door situation than the surrounding veggatation is utter rubbish.If a out door grow is found it is 100% normaly something that the grower him or herself has done and left clues like cutting tree's down so the plant's can recive more light.Cannabis growers always grow in acertain kind of way all the police realy have to do is look for any section of land that gets sun for most of the day and normaly the soil around a plant is normaly clear of any weed's or any other kind of grreenage so keep all this in mind when planting oudoors leave nothing around like feeding containers,if you can try to stray away from water has this is another key area police will look back pack the water in.When planting the plants be sure to put anything back around the plant that was there before ie grass not the smokeable kind though.Never smoke around the outdoor set up this will get you in the clinck for sure.The only other thing that the police have the edge on indoor growers is with flur camera's these are mounted to helicopters but in the uk for instance grower's think that a flur camera is part of the helicopter set up full time nothing can be futher from the truth they are borrowed of the fire department and use perhaps 1/2 days per month.But from the begining of this year in the uk there are a couple of thousand in each police force these are hand held and can pick up heat signs from a growroom indoors.That is why it is always best to have a self contained unit when i say this i mean that the heat from the grow room is taken from that room and spread through out the house.Do not add and connectors to the carbon filter ie exaust fan till it is out of the grow room or this will make the fan not run has efficiant has it should do.But if you are running something like 2/4 600 hps lights it is a good idea to vent the hot air into a loft space and then have a other seperate duct comeing of the origanal one venting into say a bathroom or bedroom this can be done with several differant ducts so that the heat is spreah out evenly.Ha long has the main ducking from the fan out of the room has no splits in it it will still work eco freindly and help get rid of the heat in several differant places through out the house.But never have it vented straight outside this will get a grower caught in the end.I'm sure in the future that the police will come up with something more advanced but till then be lucky peace tyke...........................................................................................................................................
