INDOOR TENT HYDRO GROW

Thought I would start a grow journal, I am almost a month into growing from seed so sex is still unknown. I plan to veg a little longer so I can take a cutting from each plant to determine sex and then grow one or two monster plants & scrog under 900 watts of T5's. I am flooding these every 4 hours for 15 mins they are in 20cm netpots with hydroton. I have purchased a 6" fan and duct for this tent as the 4" fan just doesn't seem to be moving enough cool air through the tent. res ph between 5.6 and 6.2 and temps between 25c and 30c. EC is 1.0 I made the flood tray out of a shallow container and the net pots. Everything is covered with a few garbage bags to stop light entering the tanks.please feel free to ask questions or comment :)

Great set up plants look like they are loving life at the moment long as you keep the light out of your tanks you should be fine keep us posted looks like you know what your doing

This is my second grow attempt. First attempt was a soil grow, vegged about 12 plants indoor / outdoor for 2 months, then half way into flower we had a scare with a police helicopter flying low over our house for quite some time.. that night we cleaned the house and dumped the plants into some bush nearby. weeks passed and no sign of any police interest. went to check the plants a week before they were due for harvest, all looked good. a few days later I went to stop by again to look in the daylight to find a new lighting and CCTV security camera system had been set up, right next to the site! Hopefully this time round I have some better luck :)

I've made a new flood tank with an opaque container so the light doesn't get to the roots, the old one wasn't draining completely either so this should fix two potential issues. Plants are looking pretty good for a first time, growth seems to have slowed this past week -probably my fault due to introducing nutrients too quickly.

IMG_3076.jpg IMG_3091.jpg IMG_3077.jpg

Just made an aeroponic cloner and taken a cutting from each plant, new to all of this so just experimenting.. I put a dab of cloning gel on the tips before inserting into the DIY stem holders cut from a floor mat.

IMG_3079.jpg IMG_3089.jpg

Trying to determine the best route to fill 2x 4'x8' tents, many small plants in hydroton pots on a flood table, or 8x or so larger plants in ebb&flow buckets stretched over a screen? The bucket system would be nice but in my situation it is best to keep time between start & finishing grows to a minimum.

I like your DIY skills plants all very happy great job

Go with smaller if you are time limited as you will cut down on veg time

Small Veg 1 - 4 weeks Flower 8 - 10weeks
Large 5-8 weeks Flowering 8 - 10 weeks

20 smaller plants will still yield you almost the same
6 big ones and save you a lot of time over all

If you don't have a limit on your plants go for more if you do then just grow bigger

Thanks for the replies :) So I am quickly learning things.. the 1mm of water that doesn't drain from the DIY tray isn't good for the roots.. Net pots have now been dropped into pots with a bit of hydroton in the bottom hopefully this will allow better draining of the roots and more room for the roots to grow inside the pot.
IMG_3330.jpg

I topped all of the plants too a few days ago

So the first plant on left has had the most growth especially in height, it has the biggest root mass as it was always in the best draining spot on the original flood tray . I think I have been running nutrients on the high side though so I have added some extra water to the res. (pic 2 and 3 below)
IMG_3332.jpg IMG_3336.jpg IMG_3342.jpg

the second plant is looking awesome, it also has a good amount of stretch & since topping just a few days ago the bud sites have quickly grown to the surface (pic 2 below)
IMG_3347.jpg IMG_3348.jpg

the third plant is the least attractive, (my luck it will probably be the female of the lot) in the original setup its roots were sitting in a small pool of water the whole time so the root mass is not as developed. It has not grown in height and some deficiencies (most probably due to overfeeding) have started at the bottom of the plant.
IMG_3350.jpg IMG_3357.jpg IMG_3358.jpg IMG_3355.jpg

so a few problems which I can hopefully correct this week by running a lesser nutrient solution & also changed feed schedule down to 3-4 times per day

I have set up a bubble bucket it has been going for about 2 weeks now, been playing around with the water level it's about an inch lower than the net pot so far so good.
IMG_3365.jpg IMG_3370.jpg

And finally after 7 days the cuttings are all showing small signs of roots :)

Ok another update and any advice at this stage would be awesome..

its going into about 7/8 weeks of veg now.

having some issues throughout the plants, one plant in particular is very stunted growth see this pic
IMG_3465.jpg

here is what i have observed from bottom of the plant , bottom fan leaves start to yellow, veins stay green, leaves can become droopy /heavy, they eventually shrivel and dry up. Is this from Too HIGH EC? Or too low?
IMG_3457.jpg IMG_3355.jpg

some photos of new growth.. is it Nitrogen Toxicity? I did at one stage increase the nutrients a little quicker than i should have , not sure if this is the result
IMG_3452.jpg IMG_3460.jpg IMG_3462.jpg

Room Temp Day: 25-28* Celcius
Room Temp Night: 20*Celcius
Humidity: 50%
media: clay pebbles in pots
water method: flood and drain
EC: 0.8
PH:5.6-6.1
water frequency: currently every 3 hours during light hours.

I have trialled a lesser water frequency of 3 times per day to rule out overwatering as an issue, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

At the start I introduced the fertilizer too quickly , & got some nute burn so i backed it off, it's been many weeks now though & as some leaves are starting to die I'm wondering if I'm not feeding them enough?

Everything seems pretty text book standard in my grow so I'm not exactly sure what to do now as the plant is showing many signs of deficiencies and abundance at the one time.

other things tried so far
- run a cycle with clean water for the day

Any advice would be great :)

So I also have this bubble bucket going quite well, the water is currently PH5.9 and EC 0.45. The air pump is 400L/HR
IMG_3468.jpg IMG_3476.jpg

The cuttings are all rooting well, they are currently misted for 15 minutes every 2 hours. My next DIY aeroponic cloner will have an improved misting timer cycle, with a shorter on time of around 1 minute, and at intervals of say 1 or 2 hours. This will stop the stem from becoming too moist and rotting (as mine are slightly). I may also try a fan blowing clean air over the roots. I think this method is all about pushing the cutting to root as fast as possible so I would like to explore various techniques.

Looking good. For what its worth, I run my sprayers 24x7 on my clones and no problem with stems rotting. My sprayers are more of a stream, and hit the walls and create the mist.

massive root growth on bubble bucket in past few days.
so the smallest of 3 larger plants is showing female pre flower and the other two male.

It looks like something is eating my leaves :( any ideas what it could be? The whole plant seems to have stopped growing for the past week

Hey man I'm on my second grow with the bubble buckets. They are awesome and so easy to use. My only advice for them is to throw a small pump in there to move water. On my first grow my nutes kinda sunk to the bottom of the bucket so my top ppm was like 900 and the bottom was like 1400. As far as the problem with your leaves my leaves did the same thing this grow and it ended up just being my ph. I was keeping it around 6.1-6.3. That's where I would check first if I was you.

Current set up:
removed male plants
planted few small female cuttings
dwc bubble bucket (sex unknown)
cloner
IMG_3561.jpg

mother plant ph:5.8-6.2 ec:0.8 flooding 10 mins every 3 hours during daylight
IMG_3573.jpg

can anyone help me is it N deficiency?
IMG_3578.jpg

bubble bucket seedling ph 5.8-6.2 ec 0.5
IMG_3599.jpg

topped the bubble bucket on 4th node, the plant is very compact
IMG_3590.jpg

and finally 9 clones from the mother plant, hopefully they will root well and i can plant on the flood & drain table in hydroton. If all goes well, these will turn into my very first harvest.

I had to ditch the bubble bucket, unfortunately he was a male. Had some fun experimenting with him though!
