Indoor Sativa Grow

Hello everyone!

I'm looking for some advice or thoughts concerning an indoor sativa.

I think I have a damn near 100% sativa mother but I can't seem to get her to flower.

A little background:

1. I know how to grow, at least Indica/hybrid anyway, all hydro.
2. My lights are right, no leaks or anything. Even went as low as 8 hours light.
3. PH, Heat and nutes are in the right place.

I have a seven month old sativa mother that I have been trying to flower for the last 2 months, no sign of flowering yet although sex has shown. I tried to flower a clone of this one a few months back and had to finally kill her as she grew way too big (total flowering time about 3 months and no significant buds).

So I am wondering if this thing is just bad genetics should I get rid of it? Or does anybody here have a similar experience? And if so should I just wait it out?

Anybody with experience in this area that could comment, please do.

Thanks

Some plants are just duds, if you have covered all the other possibilites then I would just kill it and move on. You can just harvest hash from the leaves etc so at least you get a little something from it. Don't waste your time with any more clones of it either. Order quality seeds this time and grow out a few of them so you can choose the best one to make a good mother plant from. One seed is never enough you should always grow a few out and choose the best growing best flowering plant to keep as a mother. Either that or start with a known good clone but I understand not everyone can get clones.

I have heard of some sativas taking 6-8 months to flower out. Not sure if you have one o those bastards, but it might be more productive to go with what you already know.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I think I have read on this or other boards that sometimes sativas need 9 months of growth and then after that they will flower in 8-16 weeks, meaning you could clone after 9 months and get a reasonable growth in 2-4 months. I may end up killing this thing (or it will take over and kill me) argggg. I was hoping somebody would say something like "yeah they take forever".

The aggravating thing is that these are good beans or at least the place I got them from claims to be, they should be for the cost.

I'm completely not tech savvy so i cant post pics, although I doubt they would do any good my environment is perfect and has been, trust me i wouldn't post this question if I hadn't already exhausted all other avenues i don't think pics would help.

Thanks for the posts, I think i may let her go for awhile and I'll post updates if anything positive comes of it.

Hi Anti, I grow on a patio under sunlight only. I have some G 13 labs "Thai Super Skunk", that I potted 5/6/09. This is the wildest sativa I have ever dealt with! They continue to try to push through the 12 foot ceiling despite cutting them back 3 & 4 feet at a time. They all show female sign but no flowering yet. I understand they may not be ready for harvest until late November or maybe 1st part of December! (HO Ho Ho....Merry Christmas..lol). I'm willing to go through all this BS to achieve a FINE sativa harvest because they are somewhat rare. Seems most growers prefer the indica for speed and production. But, for me, a TRUE sativa high, is as close as I will ever get to space flight!!! N'uff said about... you get the picture.
Good luck & good grow......BB
PS: I've added a pic I took an hour ago, Now you get the pushing the roof picture, lol BB :weed:

Sativa's can take a very long flower period but that doesn't mean they just sit there and veg 3 months waiting to turn, that's not right, even the longest flowering sativa should have been clearly in flower after just the first two weeks even if it did take a month to start actually fattening up.

If you have the room to let it go and still move on with others that's one thing but if you are holding up the only grow light and space you have I still say kill it now and move on already. At least push it off to the side of your grow and give the best light to some new ladies if it's still not doing any flowering for you.

Here are my ak47's which are a fast finishing mostly sativa mix. This is two or maybe three weeks into flowering, I don't keep exact track.

A full bred sativa ok I could see it looking half this flowered at the same point in time but still it should only take 3 months total or so to flower completely and you already went that far and said it's still not really going anywhere.

Spend much more time on them and you may not have a crop done until sometime next year since you'll have to veg all over again and then get though a new flower cycle all over again too. You could be really hating yourself later for waiting if it never pans out.

Thanks again to everyone for the input.

For those of you that gave pics, let me say that mine is around 8 feet long and about 6 feet tall, maybe 5 feet wide, she looks healthy enough just no bud production. I've been LST'n the crap out of it to keep it low, its really turning into a monster. This thing is no where near showing signs of bud production. I don't really need to flower this thing and I only have a 400 hps on her so even if all was good at these crazy dimensions i wouldn't expect too much. i'm torn because i am set in terms of supply and i have never grown a sativa out and i really want to.

has anybody heard of a situation where a sativa needs to grow for X number or months (9+), before it can reliably be flowered in something like 2-4 months? I keep going back to this because I think I found it on a thread somewhere a few months back.

This thing is a living being after all right? Meaning it will try to reproduce right?

I think i'll keep up the "holy crap, how do I keep her down phase" for another two feet, if it ever does fill out it would be the largest one i've ever seen. Anybody here have experience with a pure sativa? hehehe or a really weird plant acting this way?

I have grown out Indica's and Hybrids for years, this is just a really strange occurrence. I think it might be a full on sativa. Thanks for the thoughts tho.

A possible teaser update, she is starting to flower, i'm somewhere near 14 weeks into flower and finally the top of the stems have changed to the what looks like the beginning of a flower. I won't get too excited because a clone of this one went thru the same phase and never filled out.

In any event I'll post an update if she ever moves on to start producing

ahhh, it doesn't suck, not that much. I'm good on things, I just want a sativa. My condition is starting to annoy me because of the couch lock effect of indica. I would really love to see this girl flower out, if it doesn't i'll kill it when i run out of room, which is about 2 feet of vertical growth at this point.

Sorry to hear you hate sativas so much, did you experience something like this?

I prefer a lighter strength sativa for daytime medicine and indica at night or when the pain is too much to handle. If you like sativas and want something that you can function on but that flowers fast like an indica try cindy99 or grapefruit or similar. There are lots of hybrids that have been bred to have the high you seek without the full sativa length flower period. If you like strong sativa's there's things like ak47 it's a great candidate for fast and strong sativa and they naturally grow into trees and pack on really good weight in just a 45-55 day flowering period.

There are all kinds of new strains I'm not familiar with too, I'd order some seeds or find clones now even if you are insistant on letting this keep going. I know that's repeating myself, just trying to help though.

Thanks for the feedback OregonMeds! I've been thinking about ak for awhile, i think i'll try that as my next potential strain. Have you any experience with NY diesel? Or I guess I should beg, any reliable source for c99?

thanks again for adding something to this post!

I've smoked diesel, probably not NY diesel, and never grown either. Crop before this one I had c99 but it was a gift from someone local didn't get it from a seed bank and I don't have it any more spider mites took it over and it just got so messed up I tossed it rather than bother with saving it. I didn't quite realize how hard c99 was going to be to replace or I wouldn't have tossed it. Here's one of my AK's, they grow nicely as you can see and I reccomend vertical lighting for sativas. This and her 4 friends were all grown this size on one 1kw hps just by surrounding the light with these plants.

Update,

Crazy lateral growth going on. Now I have seen this before with a clone of this one but christ, this thing has turned into a 8'x5'+ bush. Crazy filling out, almost seems like an indica if the leaves weren't so thin, getting bushy as hell. So nearing four months of flower at ten hours. As long as I can control the vertical growth, i'm going to let her go, maybe some time near christmas she'll be done.
