Indoor Grow Attempt II: Garbage Can Grow

Hello ppl,
So this is my second attempt at growing. I tried last year but I got narcd on, and had to kill my sprouts. Last yr I tried using an old trunk with a cheap 'grow light'.
This year Im using an outdoor trash can, 3 (2 at first) 100 Watt CFLs, a fan, and Im going to be making a homemade fertilizer that my older, former hippie friend, told me how to make out of fish tank water and other house foods.
Im only trying for 1 female plant. but so far I have one 9 day old plant, a 2 day old sprout in a shot glass, and Im germing one more seed for luck.
Luckily, the can is big enough (i think) to house 2 ladies if I get a surprise. and bummer if all 3 are moms. Ill have to give one up for adoption. =)
Anyway, My plan is to get them going indoors (cus its still getting chilly here at night) and then on war sunny days let them outsiide real stealth like in the can.
Im attaching some pics, guys let me know what you think. good idea or bad? any reccomendations? I am going for low cost, super stealth, decent yield. =)

i'm impressed with the trash can idea! and as far as smell goes, nobody will really care to go fishing in a trash can, will they? haha.... cute plant as well

I have like 50+ views and I only get one comment, so thanks! =) yeah I actually got the trashcan idea from a guy in florida who grows his outisde, and uses this like screen thing to keep the plants from overgrowing the can. SO the plants get lots of natural light, but dont have to be seen. I figure I could try something similar indoors.

You might want to line that trash can with some refective material like mylar or poly film plastic for starters.
you could use some intake and exaust fans.... ofcourse....use a couple of cpu fans and cut holes on the side of it and place them accordinly.Over all you got a cool lil idea happnin and i hope to see a progress report here soon.LMAO

Some photo Updates... I think im at 9-10 days now. Hows it looking>?

added the reflective material. cut a hole -- actually I soldered it with a soldering tool--- coolest shit of my life.
Check this out though-- I went to turn off my lighting contraption -- theres a string at the middle-- and the socket adapter was loose and slid a little and caused a shitload of sparks to get my hand. NO harm done, but it scared the shit out of me. and i was like 15 mins into a wake and bake.
Soo, i duck-taped the middle of the contraption. lol Fyi incase you miss it in the pics. =)

tight man, u could look into using some compact t5's if u wanted to spend the cash. i got a trash can grow and i'm using them, bright as shit

conpact t5's where you get those from? I see some 300W CFL at home depot for like 230.00$ for ONE bulb. but it is 300 W. I do want to get some better light though. any body else any recommendation?

Hey Just curious, has anybody heard anything about Aquarium water being like a GREAT fertilizer for plants?
I was talking to the dude i know who is like old as jesus, and he was telling me that thats the best free fertz there is. Any body heard anything? Photo Update on Thursday. Thanks guys.

fish waste is the good part of the aquarium water from what I understand, which means the sludge-like stuff that collects on the substrate.

There are a few ways to do this. You could either use a switchable DC adapter on 12v setting, find a 12v adapter from a household device (mobile phone charger etc), or, if you are using lot of fans, bridge a connection on a computer PSU, so it will work without a motherboard present.

If you are using a plug-in adapter of some kind, ensure that the combined amperage rating of the fans you are using is not greater than the maximum amperage of the adapter.

Be careful with wiring stuff that plugs into the wall. You should make sure that the dc adapter that you are going to use is 12V, or similar to the fans you have. If the voltages are different the motor in the fans or even the DC adapter would explode. Just make sure you use electric tape, and new wire from your local store.
I used a dc adapter that is 12v in one my grows that Im starting. I think you might be a little more ahead then me.

You can find many articles on how to best cool a box, or a pc to your needs. heh i like being a computer geek. Anyway i like your idea. its sneaky

is that tin foil you used for your reflective material?..iff so...not a good idea ..that foil will create hot spots and burn your leaves. Use something like Mylar or poly film plastic.

Crypt it is not tin foil lol, its mylar/polyortoiweorlksjdf whatever the fuck its called. Its an emergency blanket in case of situations of fire or extreme cold.

So, Ive been putting fish tank water on it, ive decided to name it Sophia. Ha, and idk, looks like she likes it to me. I have been watering twice a day bcuz my fan is out-- fucking loud fan, i cant even sleep at night with it on-- Im going to my friends house soon to do the wiring for the comp fans, hopefully have that in by tomoz.

SOOoo, How she looking? Im being completely hopeful in naming/reefering to it as a girl.

I think I should start the flowering cycle like soon, bc from the way it looks on here, this thing is going to fucking shoot in a few weeks.


OH yeah, and it looks like the shot glass grow is going terribly. I had left it outside for like 4 days straight and it rained and there was no sun,; I think cold shocked it, cuz the little thing hasnt gotten very far from the last update. SO, I have it on my desk, with a hat over it -- to keep it warm now jk its for stealth purposes-- just until this rain goes away.

IDK though, help me out guys.
PS, I got that fresh cut grass smell when I opened the can this morning. Its comingg.

In the video it sounds a bit noise, but i think it is just the camera, the guy is holding. Im gonna get a prewired thermostat as well

LOL sooo, I took out sophia, and I sprayed like half a can of Raid in there. hopefully it wont take all day to dry out and itll kill those fuckers.

Any body know what it could possibly be that caused the gnats? I mean Im using a plastic garbage can, covered in mylar, there is no wood, nothing to absorb water or hold bacteria, think its the dirt? i prolly should have flushed the dirt with boiling water before I planted to kill any fucker eggs.

ps. will gnats eat the plant?
