Indica vs Sativa how can you tell

Is there some visuaul keys besides the obvious dark purple color. Because i have a couple plants and one has some purple tint on the fan leave where the stem meets the leaves but the other doesnt and their in the same pot a 5 gallon bucket

My understanding is that sativa-dominant strains are taller, with longer thinner leaves, and that indicas are generally shorter and bushier plants. First I've heard of looking for signs of purple to determine whether a plant is more sativa than indica. The conversations I've been hearing mention temperature plays a role in determing how purple a plant might get.

the color isnt what would define a plant being sativa or indica... U can get purple indicas, and purple sativas.... often Cold temps turn plants purple..
THe more sativa a plant is the thinner the leaf blades will be, like long thin fingers really spread apart... and indicas are like thicker, more round leaf blades sometimes they even overlap...

color has nothing to do with it youre right.. and furthermore you can turn almost any strain purple if you actually try (usually by dipping the temperatures when lights are off during photoperiod)

satavia= long strechy plant, with long, fingery leaves and take longer to flower
indica= short and stout, with FAT leaves, and much shorter flowering time

also the highs are different. satavias USUALLY creep up on you.

Well that explains my stems cause my temp at night get around 65F some nights when its below freezing outside

keep in mind a purpling plant, if its not supposed to purple can also be indicitive of nute issues....sooooo...pay attention.

You can sometimes tell the difference by the leaves or the amount of time necessary to reach harvest but neither is 100% accurate with all the hybrids out there these days.

^^^ agreed. But in general the leaf shape will give you an indicator if the plant is sativa or indica dominant.
