Inda-gro Induction...

Just called again, this time they answered 'Fleet Companies'.

Darryl was out, spoke with Jeff, very helpful, said 'Fleet Services' as Google Maps lists them is a parent company.

Took the time to explain to me why fluorescents are listed by kelvin and Inda-Gro's as full spectrum, so that was a big help.

Also said they are FCC listed and have filters for any interference. Their frequency is in the lower FM band btw.

Heading down to pick up a 420 and 200. Said he won't have any 200's in until next week but he ship it up to me for free :)

Gotta hit the road.

Never claimed that. Verbatim "Depending on the coating you can have a 'cool' or 'warm' bulb. I don't see any 'full spectrum' fluorescent bulbs."

When I look at grow shops they list fluorescent by kelvin such as 2900k or 6500k:

http://www.discount-hydro.com/products/Quantum-Badboy-T5-Bulbs.html

When I looked at other Inductive Lights (most seem to be commercial, parking lots, tunnels, etc.) they too indicated a specific temperature.

Perhaps I am confusing spectrum and color temperature? My understanding is a wide or full spectrum would cover a range of temperatures.

After reading your posts and watching your vids, I decided to give the Inda-Gro's a shot. SoCalEdison has 5 tiers of pricing, .09 to .32 per kWh. I will be in tier 5 so the 420 Inda-Gro's will pay for themselves in months vs 1000w lights.

I google mapped them to see where I was going but it listed 'Fleet Services' at that address. So I called the number and the gal answered 'Fleet Services'. Told her I was sorry, looking for Inda-Gro. She replied they were Inda-Gro too. Next thing I know Darryl is on the phone (seemed like a nice guy).

All that and the street view https://maps.google.com/maps?q=CA-51,+6176+Federal+Boulevard,+San+Diego,+CA&hl=en&ll=32.728646,-117.062459&spn=0.01343,0.019956&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=36.178967,86.572266&hnear=6176+Federal+Blvd,+San+Diego,+California+921 14&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=32.728732,-117.064316&panoid=4fs2T_VnsnJOtH-W_KryqQ&cbp=12,325.08,,0,5.72 of the place did not instill a lot of confidence.

That's why I started questioning how these lights could do what others could not, but I got shot down.

Here is my story, may help explain where I am coming from:

I have never grown before. Hell I don't even smoke! I do qualify for a 'medical' card here in Cali with my scoliosis but so far I have managed that mostly with an anti-inflammatory diet.

My mother passed on 6/25/2012. Last July she got sick. Prior to that she was a super healthy and active 105 pound 71 year old. I started taking care of her and watched her waste away to 78 pounds. All the doc visits, ER trips, scans, scopes, meds, nothing saved her.

I will say this though. Last fall when she was having trouble keeping things down (even water), the only thing that kept her going was MM. My brother brought over a vaporizer and it really helped her and opened my eyes to this medicine.

She could never have grown this on her own. She was so sick and weak. She only had access to it because others were willing to grow it.

So after she passed I decided I would try to grow the best I could so others like my mom would have access to it.

Yes I am on a crash course here. My Secret Jardins and meters arrived today. Have everything except ventilation and lights.

I'm in a rush on the lights because I drove 2 hours to a friends house Saturday thinking I was getting some clones. Instead he gave me 4 one gallons, 2 Northern Lights Hawaiian and 2 AK-47's to practice with. All I have for them now is a fluorescent desk lamp :(

Not trying to get others to do the work for me, just trying to tap into the knowledge of others as I wrap my head around a bunch of things at once.

I just want to get off to the right start and try to avoid early and costly mistakes.

Thx all.

btw

Splifferous, do you notice any interference from the Inda-Gro's? When I had my plasma tv it did not play well with am radio.
Hey there Flax!

i'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. i'm glad for her to have had the opportunity to find the benefit of medical cannabis, even if it was just for a short time. and i know how you feel from seeing it's healing effects first hand. it was a long time ago when i came to the conclusion that those D.A.R.E classes were nothing but bold faced lies. within my first year of cannabis use, i noticed several marked improvements in my bodily and spiritual health. and then, to see videos like this one

that call cannabis a "dietary essential"... well... i'll spare you that rant. :blsmoke:

for what it's worth, i also want to thank you for your pause to let us into a bit of what brought you to this forum. to be honest, as you entered the discussion here, with a low post count, the way you came in seemed... suspect... sorry for that, but i have seen, not only here but other sites too, where the fact that we have stepped away from HID lighting and are advocating that others do the same has pulled some interesting characters out of the woodworks. there have been a few sites that i tried to participate in that seemed to be moderated by Phillips employees...

in order to ensure that you get the most accurate info on these lamps, i would suggest calling them directly. they are all great people there, and you will be taken care of. i have never noticed any interference at all from these lights. i usually set my cell phone on the ballast while im working in the tent. phone being an mp3 player, and sometimes catching a text, email, or call. no issues.

i really wanna keep typing here now, now that i know that you are one of us :weed:. i really need to run to the shop, tho... i'll be back around later.

:peace:

Hey all, just wanted to say I am back from San Diego with a 420 and they will ship me a 200 next week after they get some parts for assembly.

For anyone, who like me, has 'concerns' about the multiple company names, odd phone answering practices and un-flattering Google street view (yeah, it's a hole in the wall), don't worry, they are legit.

They are simply a company in transition during bad economic times. They are putting their resources into R&D, not fancy digs.

The people there are really fantastic. Darryl was out but Jeff, one of the engineers, was great and eager to engage.

Speaking of R&D, and since I didn't have to sign a disclaimer, I can give you a glimpse of things to come.

What Jeff was working on when I walked in was a photocell that will adjust the light intensity based on ambient light. Really a nice option for greenhouses.

He also said they may offer a manual dimmer down the road. So if you are vegging and don't need all of the 420's glorious power, you can dial it down. NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS WITH YOUR DIMMER AT HOME! The power supply is PWM so they need to do it on their end.

Lastly they are looking at a way to have the lights tilt slowly back and forth, providing penetration from different angles.

I will check the thread later and see if there are any questions I need to answer, right now I have to go feed the critters. I do Rescue and Rehab so lots of hungry mouths to feed :)

heya flax! that daylight sensitive 420 is what they are calling their "daylight harvester". they had a prototype of it running on a small farm in deep SoCal, but the lamp was stolen in the 2nd week of the documented grow.

here's something on them from Inda-Gro's FB page about them

i gotta get going and feed some mouths err.. roots too... so i need to get going for now. but i'll also be checking back in throughout the night. i'd love to see some of your set up as you're getting it together.

nice lookin youngsters!

i had to go and measure my 420s, which was a lil difficult as they were moving, and the plants are all akimbo in the tent as it's feeding night... in any event, mine are both 14.5 inches by 41 inches. the long dimension may be 41 1/8, but i wasn't able to make an exact measurement. and they both have identical looking bulbs (with the amalgam in the pacifier lookin thing), and throw identical light.

Yep, that was it.

If they had the manual dimming option available I would have gotten two 420's and dialed one back for clones and veg.

I try to be energy conscience but it's really easy to hit tier 5 rates of .32 kWh here.

Spliff
i was wrong about the length of my lights. One is 48inches and others are 41 inches. Darryl told me that the 48 incher is their older model 420 and that the 41 inch model is easer to ship and is more intense since the bulb is shorter and fatter. My 48 er puts off way less heat though. Does anybody else have the older 48 inch model?

Hey Ganga, I have three of the original 420's series that used the 39" long lamp glass and this is the way it was explained to me. I'm going to talk lamp length and not housing length.

The difference between the ones they currently make is that the glass length is 33" and the diameter is slightly larger. With an EFDL the glass tube is like the secondary winding of a transformer coil so the impedance match between the driver and lamp is critical. By shortening the lamp 6" but increasing the diameter the same impedance is achieved but in a smaller less expensive to mfg and ship housing. In terms of how the plants react to one over the other I've not seen any difference between the two since it's the same phosphors used.

Are there any deals to be had on these lights? Or is the price on the site the actual price? I am glad I found these before making a switch to LED, I think I would have been disappointed coming from hps. What kind of temperatures are people seeing in a 4x4? Can I get away with no fan? Would make it easy to run CO2 then.

for what it's worth, my tent is a 5x10 with 2 420s; lights are on from 8pm to 8am to help stabilize temp swings (and can also help reduce electric billing if your utility has different rates for "off peak usage"). right now, it's in the low 90's outside and the tent is sitting at 78F with only the TheraPure filter venting the tent with positive pressure, and a 8" inline exhausting the room at half speed. 30 minutes after lights on, the tent temp is in the low 80s, and tops at 85 within an hour to 90 minutes. if the room retains too much heat from a hot day (it's the west facing room of the house) then i just increase the exhaust fan speed. i have no A/C, and don't have a need for the dehumidifier.

the price on the site is the correct price. think of it like this tho: there's no hidden costs behind that for a decade. i'm excluding the obligatory electric bill in that statement; i mean no $100 a pop bulbs to replace every few months, as well as the nested A/C needs. then consider the fact that they simply work better that HID lights, and you don't need 2 different kinds of bulbs.

i'm sure mine are the older ones too. i can measure when the lights come on to verify that.

Spliff, don't want to dig through the thread to see if you posted this, but how are your buds compared to HPS? By this I mean density. Nice and tight, or slightly more airy?

I've never used HPS (don't want to fight the heat) but I do notice a difference between the two sides of my flower tent. I try to start my plants under the PG180 with all spectrums on, and then finish (last two weeks) under some 3000k PLLs. They still fill out nicely under the PLLs but they also get a little looser too. At least one of my sativas did, the others with more indica stayed dense.

I had a CMH in there instead of the PLLs but heat was pushing what I wanted to manage. I was running 84-87F with the CMH and LED panel in the tent, and 80-84 with the LED and PLLs. I have since put the CMH in my veg space with a 4000k lamp and it is working very well that way instead.

strain variables aside, the 420 put out very nice nugs. i'm hanging on to my last couple of nugs of the last OL that i did (the PDP earlier on in the thread). here's a few pics of one them:

IMG_20120726_212505.jpgIMG_20120726_212431.jpg
i hope the 2 pics convey some of the density there. and the aroma... it's amazing. compared to the HPS buds, the hps ones were smaller and more airy.

as for temp, low to mid 80s is preferable in my book. at least when talking about healthy plants on their day cycle.

Well I gotta KISS it being my first time. Plus gotta use what's available locally.

Think I have settled on Pot of Gold from Dr. Earth for soil and General Organics for nutes.

Don't wanna do what everyone else does, where's the fun in that? ;)

It will be a learning experience for sure.

Hey there Flax!

i'm so sorry for the loss of your mother.
Thx, much appreciated.

Suckiest thing that's ever happened to me.

To see someone go from really healthy and active to what she became was terrible. Seriously she looked like she aged 20 years over night.

There were times I would find her laying on the floor "hey mom, do you want to be on the floor?". "No, but I can't get up."

And there were the times she could not get out of her bath. So I had to go pick my wet, naked mom out of the tub. Not fun.

Going from independent to being dependent on others (well, me) was really frustrating for her.

As sick as she was for as long as she was, I kept telling her she had another 10-20 years. I really believed it too.

That's why it was such a shock to find her during my morning routine. Yeah she was sick but not gonna die sick, or so I thought.

And it really didn't help that the deputy who responded was playing CSI, searching every room, asking me if I was taking her meds, etc.. Probably following some protocol (a warning to all if you ever find yourself in that situation) but really, zero tact.

She passed on a Monday. That was the day I was going to try to find her a new primary because it had been almost year since she got sick, but I was too late.

I keep her room closed. When I open it I can smell her. Never noticed it when she was here, but now that she's gone..

for what it's worth, i also want to thank you for your pause to let us into a bit of what brought you to this forum. to be honest, as you entered the discussion here, with a low post count, the way you came in seemed... suspect... sorry for that
No worries. You know the whole 'if it's too good to be true', well that's why I was suspect.

Started looking at the typical HPS and MH but the juice and heat made me look elsewhere.

Was seriously considering some $2,000 USA made LED beast before I stumbled upon the Inda-Gro.

But I was really hung up on the whole 'full spectrum' claim. My only experience with lights are 6500ks for my planted new world aquarium. Could not wrap my head around the fact you always had to choose a color temp with florescents, now there is one claiming full spectrum. Well why aren't they all full spectrum, it's just a coating. That's why I was having doubts.

So I landed here looking for an independent answer. And contrary to Charlies beliefs (hey Charlie :)), I live in Google. I much prefer to find the answer on my own, getting the different opinions and weighing the pro's and con's.

I was feeling a time crunch because all of a sudden I had four 1 gallon girls, that I was not expecting, to take care of. Then on Monday, when I was planning on getting lights, I ended having jury duty.

So by Tuesday I was in a bit of a panic. Turns out it was over nothing, the girls are still under the desk lamp and doing fine.

It's all good, just gotta get ventilation done and I will be good to go.
