Increasing Female Probability from Regular Seeds

My fav bro science quote is "you can't organically amend Coco, it doesn't work. You have to use peat moss if you are organically amending"

Should we tell these people there are tens of thousands of nurseries growing thousands of successful plants in Coco based, pre amended medium every year?

Apparently growing in organically amended Coco is near impossible if you ask anyone here, but I somehow managed to grow my first plant (and auto at that) indoors in a Coco/compost medium amended with osmocote prills of all things and filled a 2x4 with very little issues. Week six of flower I started feeding canna terra once a week.

I have not seen a difference at all using peat/compost potting mix from the store, or Coco/compost from the same store. I didn't even know the potting mix I used on my first grow was Coco/compost based until the 7th week when I read the breakdown on the back.

I mix worm castings into my coco coir, but I can't really say if it makes any difference other than holding moisture for longer. The plants are just as hungry with the worm castings as they are without them.

Yeah, quite obviously nonsense.

Both peat moss and coco are inert, they're just different with regards to water holding capacity, aeration and most importantly, pH value.

Obviously one can amend either one in very similar ways.

What is "organic soil" anyway? It's a lot of inert stuff mixed with a lot of organic components, and it has plenty of microorganisms and small animals growing in it. But at the end of the day it's always some kind of "inert medium" + life forms.

I think you're getting using coco instead of peat in a soil blend vs just top dressing coco with dry amendments which is what I think many are referring to. There's a guy on youtube just adding dry fertilizer to coco and growing some nasty looking plants. For some reason many thought replicating those poor results was something they wanted to try and it usually ends in failure.

You definitely can use coco instead of peat in a soil mix that contains compost, EWC, perlite, etc... But just mixing some 4-4-4 into 100% coco is not the best way to use either the coco or the fertilizer.

Another misconception with coco is that you have to water until runoff multiple times a day or at least daily. You don't.

Thanks, feminized seeds are great and all, but I am currently researching breeding; not solely focused on females only. A lot of information I have read says that you should use regular seeds and not feminized seeds for finding mothers.
yeah thats right, you wont find any good mothers in a bag of feminised, well not propper mothers anyway. but you have to spend some decent money on a pack of seeds from a reputable breeder for a good mother plant
