increase nitrogen

Not sure but messing with the ph is not the answer. If the ph is too acidic or too alcaline it wil kill your plant. Get some nute with higher nitrogen levels.

An easy way to increase nitrogen is cheap tomato feed, or blood fish and bone.

Anything organic is rich in nitrogen

Be careful though, read carefully and note other ingredients such as magnesium.

Why do you want to increase N?

What nutes are you currently using?

What medium are you using?

I have used seaweed extract to boost N when growing organic in soil. In a hydro setup when using the right nutes you shouldn't need to increase solely the N, Increasing the amount of 'grow' nutes will in turn increase the amount of N available to your plants.

i appreciate your comment luke, but if it's only N def, extra salts would have an adverse effect on the grow

currenty using hydroton and botanicare pureblend brow, ph 6.2-6.5. want to start bringing it down to 5.8 and start using beneficial bacteria.

Fair comment.

What I really meant was: When using a typical grow nutrient, N def isn't usually a problem (they are jammed full of N). It seemed strange to me why someone would ask how to increase N, I am guessing (from the replies) there is a previous thread somewhere related to this one with more information.

salt build ups in soil (hotspots) can lock out N... so the real fix is a good flush, but i would try N in the first instance

nettle tea , is the way i would go !!!!(the greener it is the more N you have, i think)

there are alot of funky answers here. i would check the ph first. normaly it is fine so dont do anything with that. you want the ph of the water to be around nutural also. you can add used coffee grounds to the top of your soil and mix it in to the top layer. dont use alot. a little goes a long ways. maybe just enough to cover the soil barely. but than when you water the N from the coffee gets taken down while the soil buffers the acidic ph. done it with success. except i put to much and my plants were dark green the rest of the grow.

more than 3/4 of the atmosphere is made up of nitrogen, your plant can intake nitrogen from the air by applying nitrogen fixing microbes. I was just reading a thread about pissing in your plants and how much of a waste it is to flush your urine down , guess they don't know about azos.

"Elemental nitrogen in the atmosphere cannot be used directly by either plants or animals, and must be converted to a reduced (or 'fixed') state to be useful for higher plants and animals."

hey no prob, I really don't have all the details on using azos. it would appear its good for rooting and transplanting (no shock). I'm getting out of soil and I don't think there's a place for azos in hydro, If you'd like to try it yourself xtreme gardening makes a pretty affordable powdered version. I was reading some articles about adding azos to teas and letting them brew/multiple but I'm not sure how all this works.
