i've always been under the impression that frass isn't for fertilization, it's more like a flu shot for your plants. it produces the same responses that insect infestation does, and makes your plant build up its defenses before it ever gets any insect infestation, making it harder for it to occur in the first place.
exactly.activates plants SAR.
How does it contact the roots forgore you water it in if its topdressed?
Do u mean like for plants whose soil level has receded due to watering?
my plants were well established so there were a lot of 'feeder' roots at the top of my soil.i would scratch in a 1/4-1/2 cup per 35gallon pot,a day after watering with dry weather in the forecast.you can water it in,yes it will work, but according to the owner of a frass co. i talked to,he recommended top dressing dry to not waste product.kind of like cutting a compost tea,you can,but it will be weaker.

i talked to the owner of this company a year or two back.i contacted him to ask about the foliar(i was hoping it may deter bugs) and that's when he recommended just top dressing dry

But if it has a npk of 2-2-2 then it is a mild all around fert no?

That's the SAR response. It's also a good fertilizer. The brand of insect frass I have is 2-2-2 so as a fertilizer it's a perfect neutral amendment and you can use it at any stage of growth without it throwing things out of whack.

I've heard of people treating plants that are already infected with viruses with frass and that being enough for the plant to kick the infection. There's also the new Harpin Protein based product that is a more focused catalyst for the response.

Does anyone know how often you can apply this with MJ? How fast the rooting chemicals are depleted, if at all in the grow cycle?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you quoting someone else talking about the SAR response to support the idea that insect frass has rooting hormones?
