in the regular closet?

Zeke is a first time grower so Zeke wanted to keep things as simple as possible. Zeke is attempting to grow in his closet (see attached pic). Zeke wanted to use fluorescent lights during both vegetation and flowering stages. He also wanted to hang the 4 ft fluorescent lighting fixture from the bar where clothes hangers usually go and have a system where he could easily adjust the height of the 4 ft fluorescent lighting fixture to be good for the height of the plant. Zeke is confused as how to develop such a system and if someone could help him understand how to go about rigging up this 4 ft fluorescent fixture that hangs from the clothing bar and moves up and down he would be very appreciative. The problem is is that these lighting fixtures usually fix to ceilings so he is a bit confused.

The depth of the closet is 23 inches. Zeke is hoping this is deep enough for a single row of 3 northern lights strains at a time.

If anyone can please take a look at Zeke’s pic and give him some good ideas on how to use the closet that is 23 inches deep Zeke would be very very happy. Thank you.

For financial reasons, Zeke thinks fluorescent lights is the best option for him.

its pretty easy my friend ...

1st u go to home depot or lowes or somewhere loke that. Buy about 10-15 foot of a light weight chain. Make sure that the chain can hold around 20-30 pounds. Next cut the chain into 2 pieces of the same length. Now I forgot to tell u to also buy something to hold the chain together, so that u can connect the chain together at each end. You can use something like one of those S things or u could use a little metal circular piece with a twisty thingy in the middle where u twist it shut.
Whatever u use to connect the chains, make sure that it is strong enough ...

Now that u have ur 2 chains connected in a circular shape, just use them to hold up ur light by putting ur chains around the pole that u would normally hang the clothes from. Connect the chain to each end of the light fixture to hold it up.
As the plants grow taller and taller u can just adjust the chains so u can move the lights up when ever u need to ...

zeke, i like your style! you got a good head on your shoulders. i suggest NOT doing what he suggests and rather then looping the chain let it run straight and just getting two s hooks one large enough to fit around the pole and the other small enough to fit through the eye of the florescent light cord. then to lower or raise just hook the s hook on a diffrent eye of chain. cheap and easy. i would lst or topp your ladies so they grow uot not up, your bank of lights wont penetrate deeply so try keep the lights withing 2-5 inches of green plant (they wont burn but start higher and then move them close and closer) and as they plants age, take a part of each check and then get a better light after about a month or two of vg and you will flower some monsters of love.

Zeke is actually probably going to buy this HID HPS ballast and recommended bulb instead of a fluorescent system he initially wanted to go with. do you guys think that it will give him enough light to grow three plants in that closet? he didn't realize the price of HID grow lights got so much more affordable.

if someone can verify that this is a good ballast to buy please respond. thanks again.

23 inches deep should be enough to accommodate this light and plant diameter too right?

t 12 will not have enough lumens, will not happen. you can veg under about 3 or 4 of those banks and still have an ok veg, but you WILL NOT be able to flower under those t 12s. wont happen. look into cfl lighting ill do some reaseearch for you brother man and see if i cant help you out with that closet you got going and get it growing. this is the MAIN thing, after it starts growing the hard part is over, keep it simple stupid. what i suggest is while you are working on your setup, go out and start a couple seeds on your window seal or whatever, get a few sprouts, just some green to look at, and you can get your toes a little wet beofre you are shoving plants into a closet. t 12 are just not what you are looking for and HARD WIRED t 12 are not somthing you want to get involved with unless you are an electrician or above the age of 60 (cause those old boys freeaking know EVERYTHING) cause youd burn your damn house down if you didnt kill your self first. IF you are going to use t 12 or t8s then you need shop lights, pre wired ballasted florescent banks. look into t5s, its what i vegged my first indoor crop trial run with and then got a 400 hps after about a month and used the t5s as sup lighting for flowering and it was nicey nicey. anyway ill edit with some links for you or somthing...good luck and dont give up.

thanks for all the help man! Zeke actually decided to switch to using HPS HID lights for both vegetation and flowering stages. can you check his earlier post-i think you just missed it and let Zeke know what you think about those sun system HID HPS lights in that closet? thanks again!

DOOO IT!!!!!!!!! give me some more specs on the room, are you mylaring??? painting it high gloss??? length by width, and i totally suggest doing it, thats A great start up lamp. should fit in the room, i would just think about getting a notherone beofre flower

and that is an AMAZING deal, im thinking bout getting one or two and helping some freinds out i didnt get xmas gifts for :) thanks man!

The dimensions of Zeke’s closet are: 23 inches deep exact / 9 ft or so wide

Yeah, since it is Z’s first grow he wanted to keep things simple. So:

- stick some mylar all across and on the bottom 2 ft of the closet opposed to painting high gloss

- ventilation will be poor but the air should get refreshed a lot when the light is off

-keep temperature at ideal range. Zeke decide to go with northern lights his first try so it will be hard to mess things up

- keep adjusting the length the HPS lights are hanging at as the plant grows so it doesn’t burn plant

yeah, Zeke just noticed that to have proper ventilation and cooling he would have to cut holes into the closet doors. He is not willing to do this so he is looking through archived topics to find the best design setup for the already linked to HPS light.

keep it simple, your getting ahead of yourself. do you have the light???? do you have any plants???? THEN WHY ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT HEAT/venting???!!!???!!???!!??? cheap and quick....a fan blowing room temp air at the bulb. you win. heat loses. as long as its not over 85 you can still get good growth, and a little fan is gonna bring you all the airflow you need. your getting to caught up in it. if you didnt mind cutting holes then you might have slaughtered your first setup before even getting a decent go at it, so at least you didnt do that. but just slow down and fight the problems AS they show up, not as you think of them. cause it doesnt sound like you have grown tomatoes before let alone anything else, so your ideas are growing some wings and going on flights of fancy. honestly i think it would be better for you to try with rooted plants before you try from seed, but just take it slow and ease into it and you will be rewarded by your first crop, dont try to force anything and dont think that you know everything or dont know enough. these plants have been growing themsleves for millions of years, i dont think zeke is gonna change that too much : good luck and you will have help so have some faith and get the ball rolling :)
