In The Beginning...

it starts out as fun. a personal experiment. a test if you will. "can i get a seed to sprout"? i was in my late teens. the year was 1985. we were fresh out of the reins of our ruling parents. we were FREE. it was a good day. we had a jar of seeds and a tattered hand-me-down copy of the marijuana growers handbook. we had an attic in a friends house. his mom was cool but stood for no shit. we threw some fluorescents up in the attic and filled 2 boxes full of seeds. the lights were 3 feet away, we knew no better. well a week later we had over 100 sprouts. within 2 weeks they were a foot tall and falling over. we transplanted a few and had several nice plants. then came the day when she came home early. she heard us crawl out from the attic. we were busted. a friend took 3 of our plants and grew them out in his yard. he got a few little buds. we had to kill all the rest. and that my friends was the beginning. i haven't been able to stop since. carry on and happy growing.

Anyone remember a book called a child's garden of grass. I read that when I was just in grade school but it was funny. At the time I just found it humorous but looking back I can see the fickle hand of fate teasing me.

That's how i started growing just to see if i could. it's a good hobbie i think and the pay off is so much better then fishing. but i still like to fish when high.

Very interesting Fd2blk.
Mogie, I had a friend who had CHILDs GARDEN OF GRASS on a Book of LPs, or records, that you listened to.
Mogie, I am guessing we are about the same age. Childs Garden of Grass came out sometimes in 1969, as a hand book or guide on how to smoke pot and be a hippie. It was like Required reading.
to be a HEAD or FREAK or Hippie or Flowerchild in the 70s, you had to read that book and have the poster DESIDERATA hanging on the wall.

When he was young you'd not find him doing well in school,
His mind would turn unto the waters.
Always the focus of adolescent ridicule,
He has no time for farmer's daughters.
Alienated from the clique society,
A lonely boy finds peace in fishing.
His mother says "John this is not the way life's supposed to be."
"Don't you see the life that you are missing?"
And he says...
When I grow up I want to be,
One of the harvesters of the sea.
I think before my days are done,
I want to be a fisherman.
Now years gone by we find man that rules the sea.
He sets out on a dark May morning .
To bring his catch back to this small community.
He doesn't see the danger dawning.
Four hours up, oh the ocean swelled and swelled,
The fog rolled in it started raining.
"The starboard bow." "Oh my God we're going down!"
The do not hear his frantic mayday.
And he says
When I grow up I want to be,
one of the harvesters of the sea.
I think before my days are done,
I want to be a fisherman.
"I'll live and die a fisherman."
Calling John the Fisherman.

One of the funniest things i've found about growing is that it can oftenly be a thankless, exhausting and heartbreaking hobby...but all the same, i love it. Alot of the time im not even sure why, its not even like i love getting high.

At the same time though, i find the plants can put me in a trance. Like i could just stay there for hours looking at them, paying attention to every single detail, obsessing over their size/colours/smells (anyone else do this).

Ah yes! Back in the days when the band didn't suck. I have always felt Kill 'Em All was their best work. Most people disagree with me I think...
