Important Water Question

I've been paranoid with my water I think. My question is if I have good tap water (just with high ph) should I use that? It is becoming a pain in the ass to go and buy distilled water all the time. Is the chlorine bad or does it evaporate if you let the water sit a day? Should I take the safe bet and continue using distilled water or just use my tap water and plan on using a shit load of ph down solution?

Okay... here is what I know, I may be incorrect, but here it goes

First, what do you mean by "good" tap water??? My tap water comes straight from canna-heaven... pH around 7-7.5 with a ppm under 70. Do you know the ppm of your tap water? That is a main factor in determining your water use-ability.

Second... water companies use two types of water treatment, when you say chlorine, you could mean chloramine (I think I spelled it wrong) or actual chlorine. If your water company uses straight chlorine, then yes, sitting it out for a day or two and the majority of chlorine will evaporate. If your water company uses chloramine, then your done, I don't think you can get rid of that stuff.
And on that note... GOOD LUCK.

----if it were me, I'd use tap water and pH down

So guys will drink the water from their tap, but they won't give a plant that same water because it isn't good enough?

Its like the guy who only buys premium fuel and the best lubricants for his vehicle, and then turns around and shoves a big mac and a coke down his throat.

Just use the tapwater with with down solution. For 10 litres you would need about 5 drops of ph down and after a few waterings you should be able to add the correct amount of drops with out even measuring the ph. Ive had a 250ml bottle that has lasted me 12 months already and my tapwater is 8.8.

used tap water for years with no problems. a couple of good meters is always a good thing to have aound. You wil be changing from upping the ph to lowering it. A suppliment of cal/mag or something like it is nice to have around.

I have used nothing but distilled water from the begining. I have no ph/ppm tester of any kind (will soon). I used AN Micro, Grow and Bloom ph perfect, Big Bud, B52, Carboload and Tarantula now and Overdrive in a week or 2 (3/4 str. max) and have yet to see a single issue. I am in a soiless mix.
I do not like our city water, it just seemed to me, it would have eventually caused me some plant issues down the road.

I use 6+- gallons a week at 3 weeks into flower (will go to 7 here soon)( 8 plants in 2 gal pots) and 7 new vegging clones in 1 gal pots. So the costs is worth the lack of headaches I have had on my first grow.

Ok, I need to make up my mind today. I have a good ph tester, like a $70 one... My tap water is officially 9.7 ph. I'm just going to go for it. I have a 5 gallon jug with spigot, then I have a huge airstone on a 60 gal pump that blows bubbles around to mix up my solution. I plan on putting the water in there and letting it bubble for around 2 days to try and evaporate some chlorine. Then I'll add solution, test, add ph solution, test and crossing my fingers...

One last question...you know that solution you put in your fish bowl water to treat it before putting a fish in...that neutralizes chlorine right? Should I put some of that in?

Thanks everyone,
