Importance of Reflected LED Light

In growing with HID lighting, having good light reflectivity inside the grow room (on the walls) is, by most accounts, very advantageous.

Is the same true for LED lighting?

NO , for LED lights , Light angle is not like HPS or HID ( 360 degree ) , that's why HPS use reflectors .

Cool. Thanks.

OK, let me make sure I fully understand. When using an LED, I don't need to have reflective walls inside my grow closet. In fact, I really don't need walls around my grow room at all. The DIRECT light from the LED to the plants is all the usable light the plants can get from an LED.

Is this correct?

Wow, I sure hope I'm understanding this correctly. I'd love to have one grow room with several flood & drain tables set up with enough space to have 360 degree access to each table. And an LED light above each table.

Gravy compared to reflected LED lighting? :)

The reason I'm asking is because I'm a long-time HID grower who now believes enough in LEDs that I'm in the process of switching both my grow closets to LED.

I remember reading or hearing that when using LED lighting, reflected light inside the grow room is not as helpful as when growing with HPS. I was just trying to get the true story on that.

It's kinda a pain making my grow closets small and reflective so that light can be reflected around.

if you're going big, quantity supersedes quality. so, reflectivity is a hindrance, though any reflected light is beneficial. if you want moving room and no walls, do that. more tables = more product, bypassing the effectiveness of a reflective closet.

The LEDs emit in a cone pattern so as long as they are not too far from the canopy, the vast majority of the photons will make it to the canopy without the need for reflection. You can angle the panels on the outside edge to improve that effect.

I'm not a high-volume grower. Just a personal grower who loves growing, and wants high potency over high yields. High potency is my main concern. So if reflected light is important to potency, then I'll definitely go to the trouble of making sure I have good reflective lighting, as I've done in all my HPS grows.

I'm just trying to make sure I understand all the nuances of LED growing. And I thank all you people for putting up with a newbie like me.

Again, thank you.

Regarding potency, there is no doubt that LED kicks the frosting up a notch on all varieties I have compared. So far the most potent I have come across have been OGs and Jack crosses make a nice compliment.
