I'm so excited!!!

I'm so excited and anxiouse to grow my first plant. I love bud, don't get me wrong in saying I'd rather grow my own, I'll buy it all the time from friends, but there is just something so romantic about growing your own and refining your techiniques that just gets me excited. its awsome.

anyways, I have a small appartment in which i live with other pot-heads, so they arent going to give a shit. i have spaces i think would be great fro growing, but im unsure. hopefully i will get some pictures up soon so i can get good feedback, but it may be a while.

I'll need a cheap set up so ive been gathering supplies. I wanna try something small first, maybe 2-3 plants for starters. here's my list for first try supplies.

ph test kit
plastic case for sprouting
small pots (cut off 2 liter bottles W/ holes in bottom for drainage)
large pots w/ water resivoir (from garden center)
watering tin
flower shop soil
tin foil (for a light director)
cardboard floor cover (it is on bare wood after all)
small fan (circulation)
calender (keeping track of babies )
seeds (these a cleaned out of pot i bought)


I'm not sure what light source i'm going to use. i need something compact and cheap, but i might be able to splurge a little for the better yeild factor. It has to be movable and fit withing a 2x2x2 space.

am i missing anything or does anyone have any suggestions. i dont really care about yeild first time around, but i do want good healthy plants.

cut the tin foil out, this can really mess with you and your bagseed babies. go with flat white paint, non glossy ones or if you have to go shiny buy mylar from a dollar store. the sell it as gift raping on rolls sometimes but watch out that you keep the mylar flat to the wall and crinkle free or it will also create hot spots! and this is bad!!

oh, and for lighting, you may start with some E27 socket CFL's (energy saving bulbs / soon standard in down under), 21W's ones run for as cheap as 5 bucks. keep them just an inch or two away from the tops so that young plants don't stretch towards the lights!!!
sooner or later you will end up to buy something bigger, i personally go with a 400W HPS system but there are now new big cfls out there for E40 sockets but i can't tell if they are any good...

sounds ok to me sofar but im really stoned and i forget things sometimes, but get them babies germinating growing plants is alotta fun and can be tricky sometimes good luck and keep up posted. oh lights some will say cfl i think mabye try to find a flourescent that will fit the space you have and get some plant bulbs for them from home depot, revy,mabye walmart. good luck

thanks guys! thats good avice. i already talked to my boyfirend about painting out closet flat white, so the seedlings will do better.
my seeds that i planted in a small pot havent sprouted and its been 3 days. they're in the window in a warm place, but nothing. maybe a while longer.

as for the seeds im sprouting the papertowel-case way, i cant see anything and im afraid to open the case. i'll open it in another 2 days maybe.

I'll take a trip to a home depot soon and see what lights they have, keeping suggestions in mind of coarse.

i cant wait to get an new battery for my digital camera so i can get some picks up. thanx again!!!

hey. i just started growing also. i took seeds from my weed as well. i noticed that if the seeds were green then they didn't sprout at all, and if they were dark brown that they grew in a couple of days. so if you planted all green seeds then they might not grow, or at least this is what I have concluded from my experience.
