Eh, the Elf filter isn't designed for heavy use. It's made for smaller tent grow operations. I'd go with either a Pro Filter, Can filter, or Phat filter in that order. The filter isn't what makes the noise either, that's from the fan and your ducting setup. You can buy a duct muffler to reduce turbulence.

For your setup, I'd recommend setting things up like so; filter=>ducting=>light hood=>ducting=>fan=>outside the room. You'll have to seal everything 100% that way to make sure no unfiltered air gets drawn into the exhaust air, but this way you wouldn't have to have a separate fan to cool the light. When I had a single light grow that's how I did it and it works just fine.

Just make sure you don't use the cheap speed controller for a Can Fan Max Fan. They need a special type, not sure why.

I can not be using anymore electric. this is a major concern right now. i have a 1000w HPS, 2 t5 Sunblaze's, a regular t8 4 bulb fixture and a portable A/C unit. right now electric is only $195. this next months bill, im dreading to see. are those generators electric free?

i just did a quick google search for a fan speed controller on Harbor Freight, and nothing came up. said no match results.

hey!!!! do they call those speed controllers Router Speed Controllers? i see them on HF called Router controllers, same devise on eBay says it is a fan controller. sold by a hydro store...lol!!

Shit, man, I took the time to respond to YOUR post...and you even responed back. But, it seems like you didn't take the 30 seconds to actually read it first.

sorry man. i see now. and i found the same thing on ebay under "fan controller" so... thank you, i spy!! i understand your frustration with that. im trying to explain a pest problem i have. and nobody seems to be reading all my posts, lol! it CAN be annoying. i read it.... so relax!!!
