What should i do if there is not going to be anyone around for 2 1/2 weeks to water? its a holiday break coming up. From what i hear aqua globes dont cut it... what would leaving water in the drip pan do for the plant? should i water it twice before i leave?

ive transplanted once already and how do i get a rootball out of dirt and into one of these systems?

would 12 days be wayy too long to not water? cause i think i can cut it down to that amnt of time

hey i had same problem leavin town to go to the dam for a few days then goin home for xmas have to leave em for weeks, i built an irrigation system from scratch..all u need is a simple water pump, tubing to fit that pump mine is 16mm ,some 4mm tubing and a 16mm to 4mm connector, some mini 4mm valves and a plastic box, oh and a timer..now all i do is have the pump on a timer for 10 mins a day, already having adjusted each valve to allow 20mils through each 4mm tube per minuite my plants recieve 200ml each day ..now the total price came to £15 for pump..£3.50 for plastic box..(oh yea plastic box is better as it has low sides so u can buy a weaker pump) and about £8 for all the rubber tubing and connectors..and a timer which cant be more than i duno £3-6?

u can get the whole lot for around the £25 mark which is nothing for a fully automated system!not to mention u can get it all from grow shop or home depot.. + rep if i helped :hump:

The only way you could go 12 days without water is if they're still in veg, you soak them before you go, and you switch your lighting to a single cfl so they don't use much water.

Short of that you will have to figure out a wick system or drip system or something, there's no way they'll survive otherwise.

Putting water in the tray won't help, it would just drown it for a couple days before it eventually dies of thirst.

well i only bought the cheapest 'maxi-jet' pond pump i could find i dont know what country u r in so cant reccomend a price but any fairly cheap one u may find online or at home depot..then u know whe yellow things in the picture? they are like mini taps u connect to the tubing..they will be in same section of home depot as pumps, one at a time i adjusted the tap so it dripped quickly rather than poured and adjusted it untill it took exactly 10 mins to reach 200ml..stop watch each one depending on number of plants
hope this helped

flashman has the right idea... if your plants are in soil there is no way to effectively transplant them to a DWC system you pull out of your ass... drip system would be the way to go... you can get a small water pump at a pet store that has fish... just be sure that the water level in the container you are pumping from is BELOW the level of the drippers or they will become gravity fed and will leak all the water out... if you have a hydro shop near by - you should be able to get drip fittings that are adjustable (in gallons per day), you could then leave the water pump on all the time, and the drippers will drip at a set rate... put at least one dripper per plant...

yea i agree one fripper would do it, im actually guna try to upgrade soon..it doesnt matter too much but 2 drippers on eaitherside of the stem would be better if u where guna bother to make the thing anyway..im guna do that soon i rekon

so i just got back from the hardware store and pet store. i picked up a mini jet 404 ($22), 10ft of tubing ($0.59/ft), a few splitters ($1.50 ea), and a timer ($7). the mini-jet has adjustable settings so right now im trying to figure out what setting to put it on to get the right amount of water. thanks to ppl who contributed to this thread. even tho i didnt start it, i got the info i needed and now hopefully i can have a worry free vaca!
:peace:

I had the same problem and tried droppers while I was gone. Ended up killing all of them by overwatering. Be careful not to overwater. Also, I did ok going from soil to DWC. Just rinsed as much dirt as I could, then put into my DWC setup. No probs
