I was looking at buying a few leds from China, I lived over there and I know the quality of some merchandise is lower standards than in the USA or Australia, but they use the same system basically as many of the USA models, I have seen some USA companies selling off the exact same models and all they did was put their company logo on the side of it. Does anyone has experience with lights from China and how they stack up?

Im going back to China in February to help my fiancés sister with her company trading Australian products so its a good opportunity to go to the factories directly and inspect before purchasing, also I can cut out the shipping cost as ill just bring them back in a spare suitcase.

Hi all,

I posted in this thread in july, then it took me 3 months of long readings & thinking to decide wich lights Im gonna get. Finally opted for 3 Hans panels wich Im using for veg and some auto's at the moment. Couldnt be happier. Well, actually I think I could with some A51 or Apache but anyway :)
No pics or journals since Im a newb and its not really worth it, but I just wanted to say thanx to the members for the valuable info they gave me so I didnt buy crap lights.
Thanx to puffenuff, Eraserhead, jcmjrt, PSUAGRO, Tags420 and all the others for their patience and honest answers. Cheers guys!

Pretty sure we'd all like to see your Hans panels in action.

Hello. I am reading the Thread, but haven't gotten through it. I was looking into Philips Horticultural lighting http://www.lighting.philips.com/main/application_areas/horticultural/overview-products.wpd. It seems to be interesting. I have no experience growing. I am hoping to start my first grow in January. On the Philips website are product descriptions and spec's. The US supplier is called HortAmerica. The area I intend to use is 3' deep, 3' high and 5' long. Based on my dimensions they recommended 2 of the 5' GreenPower production modules at $165 each plus shipping. If someone would be kind enough to look at the spec's and info and possibly advise if this will work? Should I supplement the light with fluorescent? I picked up a 4' 2 tube fluorescent fixture and 2 6500k whites. Does anyone know if I will need it? Thank you, RichT.

Heres a quickie. Work area is 120cm x 80 cm. End row is pepper, cumcumbers and strawberries.
Left is 4 x Polar Light 2 autos, next to its 4 x Magma fems, and then my propagator on the right with more peppers, tomatoes and eggplants.

I can attest to the fact that my Area 51 LED panel is WAY better than the fluorescent lights that I previously used. No more heat problems. Much healthier plant! You can see my first LED grow through the link in my signature. My grow space is small, too, about 2' x 3' and 4' tall. That's the perfect size for one Area 51 light. The company's web site contains tons of useful information including all the important specs. It's <here>. I think most growers on this thread usually recommend either this or the Hans Panel for the best bang for the buck.

There are 2 models of Area 51 currently being sold:

The SGS-160 is the 2013 model, which has one mode for veg and another mode for flowering. The flowering mode just turns on some extra red LEDs.

The XGS-190 is the current 2014 model. It has all white LEDs that are supposed to be great for flowering and vegging. And it has more power.

I chose the SGS-160 simply because the height of my grow cabinet is kinda short and the SGS-160 can be hung a couple inches closer to the canopy.

Thanks for the reply... question though... I can use the SGS-160 to Veg and Flower is my understanding and for an area the size of mine i only need one SGS-160.
Nice journal by the way was that a hydroponic grow???

3x3 would be perfect. You should really just check out his site. He's gone out of his way to provide all the info he can.
http://area51lighting.com/

I just ordered two of the XGS-190s for a 4x4 but I think the recommended for a single unit is pretty close to 3x3. I think the way the unit is designed I'd be better off with a 3x6 or two 3x3s but the dobuble 4x4 should be fun too. :hump:

Thanks. That's kind of like a Waterfarm, except with a timed water pump instead of using an air pump to send water up to the top of the grow medium. I mostly copied my setup from Flowamasta and from The Dawg. And yes it is at least partly hydro, with the roots hanging down in the res. I'm not sure if growing something in Perlite classifies as hydro or not, though.

Growing in any inert aggregate is hydro for sure.

Hi ya all

Not sure if this was posted before but while I was drooling on the Area51 lights I saw this in their FAQs, anyone has info hes willing to share? A small 85 watts panel is on the way...
With the actual rate €/$, it might even be more interesting than a Hans!

Q: Are you coming out with other models besides the SGS-160 or XGS-190?
A: Yes, stay tuned for a new XGS lamp, a mini-lamp running on only 85w.

This is my very first post to this forum. I've always used it for a source of information but never actually registered. I've had the pleasure of growing three beautiful plants and harvesting them (which I dried way too fast and ended up harsh tasting but lesson learned). I also used hid lights and the power bill was insane. So I haven't started a second grow yet, I've decided to save and buy a legit led (equivalent to 600w hid) for both veg and flower. I've done soooooo much research and there are just too many sketchy companies. I need you guys to share your experiences and advice with me so. Thank you
