How do I figure out the amount of PPFD for the following configuration:

6 x CXB3070 driven by 2 x HLG-185H-C1400B over a 6.25 sq ft area.

3500K BB

50.77% efficient at 164.541lm/watt, ran at 1400ma
8197lm
has a vF of~35.59
emits 50 dissipation watts (heat)

(you have room for a 4th CXB3070 on that driver, close to 36 vF is still available for monos or a cob)

Driver capacity = 148 vF

148 - (4(35.59)) = 5.64 remainder capacity.

I am unsure how to do the PPFD calc on the fly. I wrote it down somewhere...


You'll want µmols/m^2/sec for your PPFD.

So do you just recommend I get a driver that has room for 3 cobs? I just think that an 8 cob, 3070 BB @ 3500K would be a bit much for that space. It seems like that might hurt lumen output but I have no clue.

6 cxb3070 3500k BB's...

50w each...300w cob dissipation
times efficiency(51%)=153PAR watts
153 PAR watts x 4.7(conversion factor)=719PPF
DIvide by square meters...6.25sq ÷10.76(sqft per m2) = .58m^2
719PPF ÷ .58m^2 = 1239.66µmols/sec/m^2 is what your plants will feel...with just 6. That is already on the top end of what you need. Any more is overkill...to a negative point.

You can get the 185's if you want so you have the ability to add more cxb's on there if you expand or whatnot, but they are certainly not needed and will not make your current situation better.

In all truth, just 4 cxb's on a 185-1400 will be enough to get your space in the ideal light range, ~800µmol/sec/m^2. Or 5 on one hlg240-1400 would be great in a 5 pattern...4 corners and 1 in the center

You could run
3 on an HLG-120H-c1400
4 on an HLG-185H-c1400

The driver cost is close to the same. I know the HLG-185H-c1400 can have an external potentiometer - you can smidgeon down your lights if you decide to use 8 cobs in your setup. Though, @Greengenes707 did mention that 8 COB's would be overkill.

It depends on your preferences. Maybe you want to space out your lights in a larger tent for some reason, or conglomerate your setup in another way.

If your potentiometer fails while clustering 8 cobs in the smaller area = not a good time

The 10x CXB 3070 setup would have been 1432.92 µmols/sec/m^2 in the 3'x3' full blast... way too much.
 
After a few weeks of info-farming i've become an understander of this DIY-led porn industries.
As always there's a but..
To consider: 60x60cm space that later on will become 75x75cm.
In this space i would love to be able to have 6x cxb3590's.
Since we are in the high w numbers of the space, a B (dimable) driver version is the one for me.
What i have a problem understanding, is due to my grid (230v 50z) how am i choosing the right driver?
Cooling options: is there anything else than active due to the cm2 limitations?
While going active, i have the same problem choosing driver due to my grid.
So with active cooling, do i aim for high effect on plants or efficiency?
Fan options for active: i've seen these! complete with alu heatsink, less part assembly probs.
Any options that will fit my plans better?
Lens: The white angelina looking 90degr cup. probably the cob+holder+cup package from Jerry at KB.

When i expand to 75cm..
Should i go 4 cobs now and add 2 later on? (just an idea)
Distans from plants to light source? i know the spread, but can i get too close? like HPS burns/bleeches?

I see a lot of known names in this thread, thank you who ever spends time answering my ????
Hopefully all the "read more, search more" comments can spare server GB space.
