I see a lot of people asking for basically the same thing I am is there a led I can BUY not build for under 300$ that will beat a 400 watt hid mh/hps? It seems unless I have a computer degree or a 1000$ it's not worth it

Uh uh no way that will work. Optic is a good brand but youd need magical spectrum to properly light 16sqft with 250 w. Platinum led sells magic.

But i suggest you keep learning diy, save up and build something, bright and efficient and a good value.

I have an optic 360 i use it in a 4x2. Works great but i added on to brighten the edges.
Thanks a ton for the advice.

Sorry, my intentions/expectations weren't entirely clear.

I have a 4x4 space but I don't necessarily need to completely fill it. I was planning on running 2 DWC buckets and leaving myself room to expand later. So, the total coverage I need just has to be sufficient for 2 DWC SCROG 5-gallon buckets.

What about this: if I SCROG each bucket into a roughly 20"x20" screen, could I get by with two Area51 W90s? They claim to optimally cover a 20"x20" area. If in the future I decide to try to add two more DWC buckets, I could grab two additional Area51 W90s. That would work out to 32 watts per sq. ft. using a system where I essentially chain a new W90 in for each plant I want to cover.

Alternatively, I could look at the optic 200 to cover the 40"x20" space (that'd be 36 watts per sq. ft.), and grab another to get up to 40"x40".

In either of those approaches, I wouldn't be opposed to throwing another small light into the mix to get the best results.

Thanks for your help!

I bought an ocean revive 180 watt full spectrum ufo LED on amazon... the kicker.. 79$ shipped to your door. I use that and 4 23 watt CFL's and things are going great... thats a shit ton of lumens for less than 100$ .. and I only used to LED for veg then added 4 23 watt cfl's..

That ocean revive 180 watt UFO will do 1 plant excellent. I wouldnt do 2 plants though but 1 plant and yes it'll be all good.. may wanna add some CFL's when she buds

Was wanting to have either 2 heat sinks with 3 lights each or 3 heat sinks with 2 lights each. Could use some advice on the drivers for 700mA and 1.4 A as well.

I wouldn't pay $50 for that light. The owner of that company is riding on Advanced LED's coattails, but selling an inferior look-a-like. I'm almost positive that those reviews are all fake. Companies do that all the time. They create second, third, fourth, etc accounts, buy their own product, and then leave a review.

I really wouldn't want an Advanced LED either, real or fake. Epistar LEDs just aren't appealing.

You can get 2 of the new A51s for about the same price and have more watts and more efficiency.

You could also look into a 200w Optic LED, it's a little bit more than you wanted to spend but not a lot more, it's about the same power as the A51 and the Platinum you were leaning towards. Optic and A51 both uses Vero COBs.

I'd recommend Pacific, but it's over $400, almost double, have a look anyways.

Any LED recommendations for the following?

* capable of blooming and vegging
* under $400
* lowest heat generation possible (have heard COB technology is best for low heat)
* 5 sq ft area (36" x 20" inch tent)
* 1 light or multiple small light recommendations are welcome!
* no DIY please :(

leaning towards this only because of the high ratings it receives: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTBS91Y/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2

thank you :)

I don't have an opinion on the Hans, never used one or know anyone that used one.

I think both Optic and Area 51 will ship to Europe. Area 51 had mentioned a store in Germany that carries their lights, maybe you can save on taxes if you ordered from there.

I have advanced led ds xml 350 and I LOVE IT! I've used HID and this light has given me the best results thus far. It is pricey, but worth it.

Yes, the warehouse is in colone Germany the customar Service say to me 3 weeks left than he have the New area 51 LED 199€ better than Order from the us with Tax. So when i go with 2 lights i have 190 Watts. Which Space is perfekt for both LED?

80cm x 80cm, that is about 31"x31". I think 190w of Area 51 will fill that area up well. I think the 200w Optic will do good in that area as well.

I have a 36"x36" grow area, and eventually plan to use 2-3 of the W90s in there. I'm saving my money. Right now I'm using a 400w HPS in there, I used a Vipar LED for a while until it kept breaking, then went back to the 400w.

I don't care what anyone says, a 400w HPS is still a workhorse when it comes to smaller to medium sized areas. Hard to beat for the price.

It's crazy AREA51 w90 costs $174 in their website and when in Germany it costs 199 euros which is $221. Almost 50$ more.
Yes I know, custom tax will apply when you send it from the USA to Europe but still it sucks. I want the same price :)

I'm not an expert on this (I have never ever grown anything) and I haven't seen grow journals with these lights (w90's), but grow journals with other AREA51 led lights look really good. I don't know if it beats or doesn't but plants look really good. I read somewhere that good LED lights beat HPS. So, ye, I'll just buy them and try to grow some stuff for me. And you should do that too. And than we will talk.

Hi there, I've recently updated my grow space and I need some advice. I'll be using a tent that is 32x64. My previous light was an advanced led xml 150. I liked its performance but the customer service was shit and after only a year one of the drivers went out. I was looking at the new a51s and thought about purchasing two of them but I'm still unsure. I want a light that can both flower and veg. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thank you for yalls time and input.
