Ok, will try to find thread.

I'm familiar with CFLs, was just wondering if LED was perhaps cooler per watt? CFLs are cool but they can get hot when you add enough...would be nice if there was a cooler option to squeeze out more yield in such a tiny space.
you will need air exchange LED bulbs or CFLs are the way to go with that setup on addition to a scrog screen so you can train the plant to it and keep it from getting to close to the light. leds would be the way to go but cfls aren't a bad option. 135w led would be overkill you probably need about 60w of light in there cfl or led.

Shit think I bleached my seedlings with my area 51s. Who would think 10" is too close lol.
I just saw someone else do something similar with a AT. It is not 2008...led's are just as intense if not more than any hps's out there now. Specially when you are buying the bests light(Apache and A51). They do it from the same height, so it is not some kind of marketing trick. They are not messing around when they tell you the hanging height. Those heights are recommended so that at that height the canopy will be receiving the optimal light(700µmols-1200µmols)...which is intense even for full flower.

The only difference between the top led's and hps is coverage. Other than that, underneath the led's coverage, you need to do everything the same as with big hps lights. Unless rocking an AT600...then you get it all(coverage and more intense than hps).

Would you put a 1000w hps 10" from your seedling???

Yea, I figured as much about air exchange. Would never try to grow and expect decent results without ventilation. Probably will LST versus scrog. Just picked up 6 crees from HD (4 x daylight, 2 x warm) and might end up throwing a cfl or two in there to help keep temps up since my room stays pretty cold.

These intrigue me because they have a decent lumens/watt rating and if that globe is just a diffuser, and not a remote phosphor, then you could remove it for a bit more light. Also if it's not using CREEs tower design they may be better for our needs. But there really is only one way to know. Also the EcoSmart brand use CREE diodes in some of their bulbs.

I don't know about that one. Everytime I try to go on the page for that bulb on Philips site it takes forever to load and before it finishes loading I get kicked offline.... Dammit Obama.....

Are there any other off the shelf LEDs at HD or Lowe's that can be used like the Cree's?
yes there are many brands some will need the outer dome removed. but some of these this cant be done with because the leds inside are deep blue/UVA colored and there is a phosphor coating inside the dome like flouro. although witht that said, that does not make them bad lights, their color rendering is very good, but the output of lumens is less, therefore it would take more of these to achieve the brightness of less direct led bulbs.

Looking at that some more, 3k is at the borderline for flowering, isn't it? I was always taught that the 3-4k was useless
not true. kelvin is an inadequate system that measures the overall look of light and not the peaks of light specific colors of the spectrum that makes up the light they produce. any kelvin light is potentially useful.

Nice! I don't think you will be disappointed with the Cree's. Mixing is fine, I couldn't find the 5k's around me in stock, so I will use my 4000k/4500k cfl's to mix it up. Though I am tempted to just jam 10 bulbs into my space and call it a day.

These things put out no damn heat at all it's ridiculous.

Last: my opinion is LST, with practice you can get the same results as scrog easily. I started with pointers from bonsai books....but of course it isn't hard to bend and tie down a plant without experience either. But every bit helps :leaf:

I'm excited to use the Crees...so much easier to deal maybe having to add heat rather than reduce heat. My CFL grows always ran kinda hot.

And as for LST, I firmly believe in tying all my bitches down :D

Well I think it's safe for me to say that most folks around here don't seem to be UFO fans. CREE bulbs are the hot number for small grows right now. SMD/High Power WW/CW/630 arrays are probably better liked than UFOs. Ultimately a UFO grow ends up with the person adding CFLs or T5s. Some people have said they got OK numbers from them but I wouldn't recommend most UFOs, if any. You could go with a more high power option and dim it for your space but the question always comes down to $.
Thanks for the reply FranJan,
i'm fairly new to indoor growing but i've done some research for quite some time on lighting but never heard of CREE and SMD/High Power WW/CW/630 arrays ? Are these LED based ? are they a certain make (like phillips ?) and are we looking at a price over 150$ for a small grow ?
EDIT: after searching CREE and because i live in europe i think these are no easy option for me :/
Are there similar bulbs from other companies ? are they E27 or E14 socket type bulbs ?

Check out Chronikool's threads. He uses different LED spotlights and bulbs from all over. I think he could help you figure out what you need. Just don't buy that Mars panel :). (That's a joke you'll understand soon.)

Hello all, Iv got a question or two if ya dont mind bongsmilie

I was looking at these 100w LED flood lights, but all seem to put out a "warm white" or "daylight white" color temp... And I noticed just about all LED lights marketed as "grow lights" lean much more to the pink side of things. My question was would these cool/warm white lights still grow nice plants? Iv flowered under just hps and just mh and combo of the both (combo gave great results obviously) but the MH flowers were toppp shelf for sure with a lower yield.,,, these would be more like flowering with MH no?

^^ I was thinking these may be a reasonable alternative to pricy led grow specific lights.

In my googling I also found these color changing led flood lights for a reasonable price (maybe?)
You know my stoner logic brain went a bit coo coo when I saw this :eyesmoke:

^^ I think a single one of those would be cool for a test grow on a very small scale, just to see how plants reacts to the constant changing spectrum << purely experimental!

Let me know whats up :-)

:peace:
