I have asked this question on another thread and was never answered, I am new to LED grow lights in general. What is the deal with using a light like the Banshee 216 w from wickedlightstore? I am wondering if this type of style LED light using the standard GU10 pluggable bulbs could be any good? It would seem that being able to change the bulbs etc would awesome, but there must be a reason these types of "fixtures" aren't being mentioned...Can someone tell me if this type of the negatives of this light and why it doesn't work?
I'd stay away from that light. It says it uses Cree but on one of the pics showed colored cobs and CXAs are not pink and for $359 you can make a better light.

But I guess we will maybe come back to pink...I heard about new cob with red phosphor instead of yellow to increase red ratio I guess!
It is not on the market yet but soon...!
But atm cxb 3590 are some of the best in gpw for the price you pay!
It is about 1100$ for 660w of very efficient light for a 4x4!

No it's $1400 for about 900w from the wall lol

You mean 16 cxb 3590 @1400mA or 700mA in your case because they are 72V are pulling 900w from the wall...do you add fans?...I guess it was about 850/860w!?!

ive been looking at power supplies for four computer fans and ran into a computer shop where they gave me a 450 watt power supply, just wondering if this will drive four fans similar to alpines but a bit smaller and how to do it if anyone knows.
I dont want to be running it if it uses 450 watts though, will it only draw what the fans use?

2cent, keep in mind goal is to use less and get more. I kinda understand it after about 20-30hours of checking it out. To be more efficient id keep it at 30w sq/ft. 1 COB sq/ft is looking ideal. Im phenin for a 4x8 tent setup and 800-1000w run. 12pk waterfarm. Depends on PPFD. Gotta get me a few $ for this shit again. lol.

where does everyone get these calculations?
ive no idea what a bad or good led is ive small knowledge into bin codes etc but no idea what a good bin is,
also where are you gettin which colour to use?
why most using whites over red n blue?
and most seem to use meanwell drivers?? there tiwan made is it not safer getting usa or uk approved?

(use less to get more? so instead of wattage better is i say im airpot ,coco, advanced ph perfec, 8 plants hitting avg 50 oz? i need to match or beat it? :P )

Where to start????
Us. So id need an extra driver if i ran 8 @ 1400ma vs 700ma. Ah prob 2x active cooling too.
You are right...i have 4cxb 3590 3500ºk 36V CD @1400mA on an hlg-185-1400b (there is a and b model!)
A have a build-in pots...50% to 100%
B don't you need to buy a potentiometer 100k ohm and a resistor 10k ohm (2/3 $ for both) to dim from 10% to 100% (if you let dim+ and dim- open you could eventually get 108%!)
And yes 30w sq/ft is what I aim for...but 1 cob sq/ft @30w is the way to go...and yes when you have 1 cob sq/ft at high efficiency (more than 60%!) I guess you will need reflector or lens to focus the light...but lens on @1400mA and more is not necessary unless you grow tall plant (and I know many US guys done that because of the law...6 plants max!) At first I was wondering:why they loose time because at the end they "shave" 2/3 of the plants?...to be honest I still don't understand...I never cut a piece of my girls...just made a good bending and use all the branches to get multiple bud...never more than 4/5 weeks vegg after the first real pair of leaves!
If you want 33w from the cxb 3590 you will need to drive them @1050mA...they are 23w @700mA
You can put five of the 36v on an hlg-185-1050b or 6 on the 240-1050b...!
But if you grow tall plant you will definitely need reflector or lens!
Have a great day ★

If you fallow supra and growmau how could i help you...lol...they are so helpful...i really like those guys!
What do you want me to tell you except go for cxb 3590!
Do you want to replace everything in one time?
Or do you want to start with 220w...4 cxb3590 on an hlg-185-1400b (I have 3500ºk and it vegg very well for a bloom cob!) I run them (4×55w) over a 3.5x3.5x4.5 and everything is ok...I will chop soon and let you know the gpw!
So tell me where you are lost and I will try to help you...like supra and others helped me a year ago...karma...!

QUOTE="Tyrone Smith, post: 12195062, member: 919994"]I am working on building a stealth grow cabinet. The full space inside is 36"x18"x60. I was going to use a CFL set up but started looking into LEDs. I have a low budget to work with and was thinking about something like this. Thoughts and opinions?

Did you read a bit before asking this question?
It is a very old tech...maybe for seedling it will be good...maybe!
Even for free I do not want it!
Why do you think everybody talk about cob light?
You don't need to buy 44 $ cxb 3590!
There's good cob for small areas at 10/15 $(90x45x150 is the size of your box so not so small...3x1.5=4.5 sq/ft...so 150w would be cool...)
You would need 3 cxb 3590 @1400mA on an hlg-120-1400b and a good hs plus fan to cool it (1 cob will cover 1.5 foot than you will need 3 in long)
If you need good adress to buy everything just ask me
Have a great day ★

I'm glad you mentioned lenses and reflectors. I think I'm going to try my build with a lens. What do you use?

Word up. Ill keep researching it. Thinking angle alum frame w/ panels, fan for each COB to make wiring fun.

2cent, im going by results from guys on here. 1+ gpw looks alot easier to hit than with a HPS. And run alot cooler.

Bonjour
I am using cree cxb3590 3500ºk 36V CD on a Meanwell hlg-185-1400b (220w)...cooled by a 40x6.6x1.4 heatsink cut in 4 part with one fan on each!...I prefer 1cob 1 hs for the best light spread possible!
I do not use lens because I don't have enough cob atm (only 4 @55w each over a 3.5x3.5x4.5)but i will use reflector as soon as i will have more cob i don't like the idea to put wrap my cobs with anything so no lens but reflector for me! and I chop soon so I will know my gpw too...and compare to my 600w hps it look really nice...I will wait for weight before open champagne but it is easier to grow and get more than gpw in organic soil than with my hps and I do not talk about heat, nutes, electricity bill because less vents....!
I will stop hid after this crop...both of my bloom tent will be in cxb3590 light and my vegg tent will keep the t5 till I put 5000ºk cob in but smaller one!
I am not in electronic and it was the first time I built something with parts and make it work...I am hairdresser!
So I guess anyone who's able to drill and tape plus apply thermal paste and connect a few wire with wago is capable of making a panel with some help in the led section!...like I did!
