If you are in illinois

If you happen to live in Illinois, PLEASE take a moment to contact your representative and ask them to vote yes on SB 1381.

It is crucial that illinoisians do this for a few reasons:

1) it's the democratic process--make sure your representative is REPRESENTING

2) Illinois is getting very close, but......

3) AND THIS IS REALLY WHY: "Representative Lou Lang, a Democrat from Skokie [il] who is sponsoring the bill in the House, said in an interview that, “If every legislator who told me we should pass this bill actually voted for it, we’d pass it tomorrow [...] but we have too many legislators who don’t have the courage of their convictions.” Essentially, many of the legislators who compose the heavily liberal-leaning House have privately stated that they want to legalize medicinal marijuana, but they are afraid to state the same in public."

~~~So, if you take just a minute to send an email--it will really could go a long way. I haven't heard anything for a few weeks, but I think this is going under a 'second review' very soon (in NOV.)
SO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still hopeful that Illinois will be the next state to adopt MM laws, but I'm afraid they will not vote there conscience in an election year. It's safer for them not to take a stand on any issue, and with Obama slipping in the polls they may decide to distance themselves (for the rest of the year) from his policy statements.
Most people don't even know who their representatives are, so here is a link to a list of Illinois representatives, which also includes a link to their contact information.
If you don't know what district you live in:
First do a google search using your "town (name) and then include the word "district". "town district"
You can also do a google search to see if they are up for re-election, and to check their voting record, and either offer them support, or vow to campaign against them in the coming election, according to their position on the issue.
There are also many local elections coming up, for law enforcement leaders, and with a little work you can find out if the local sheriff and Judges support your issues. If not campaign to promote them to the curb as well, and let them know your plans to actively campaign against them.
You can also make a financial contribution to support NORMAL, and the MPP
:peace:
Thank You Green Cross--for the link and sharing resources.
Unfortunately, I believe you are probably right about reps not voting their conscious, like Lou Lang said.
SB 1381 appears pretty hairy to begin with. From what I understand, it gets very specific about WHO EXACTLY could qualify--but thus far I have seen nothing on HOW patients in Illinois, who cannot grow, could gain access to a quality product...
I thought this was supposed to be up for a review in the first week of Nov.--has anyone heard anything?
Your Welcome NakedGarnener
I did read somewhere that if the issue isn't taken up in the appropriate time in November, then it won't be until early 2010... when the congress resumes.
I'll see if I can find the link to that info
There are no legal options for Illinois patients, other than to migrate to a more progressive state.
I'd like to become more involved in the MM cause, but not sure whether it will be in Illinois or one of the states that's already passed MM reform. I guess that depends on the Illinois legislature.
Right now I'm in the process of writing a book on MM horticulture within the constraints of the law, but I'd rather be taking care of patients and their plants.
if anyone has an out of state opportunity, I may be interested. :leaf:
whats up man, Im from chicago and i have already emailed all my House Reps.
It looks like the deadline is Nov. 30th 09. We should KNOW by then. If it doesnt get passed this year we have a problem because of a new election. Therefore, it can take months to years.
I hope it passes as well. I have gotten responses but the best thing is to check the website for updates.
Hey there, there's always the chance they will push it through, in order to raise some much needed tax revenue.
The MPP site is where I found the information I was referring to. It's old news...
"On May 27, the Senate passed the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act — SB 1381 — by a vote of 30-28. Within 48 hours, the bill had already soared through the House Human Services Committee and was ready for its final reading and vote on the House floor. Tax legislation, however, occupied all of the House's time in the session's final hours.
The measure could be brought to the House floor for a vote during the November veto session or when the General Assembly reconvenes in January 2010 for the second half of the current session."
Medical Marijuana Bill Awaiting House Floor Vote
Last update: November 6, 2009
After passing the Senate on May 27, SB 1381, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, is awaiting a floor vote in the House. The measure was not brought to the House floor for a vote during the November veto session, but may still get a vote some time after the General Assembly reconvenes in January 2010 for the second half of the current session. MPP and our lobbyists and grantees, along with patients and House sponsor Rep. Lou Lang (D - Chicago), are working hard to remind legislators how important this legislation is to patients and their families in Illinois.
Governor Pat Quinn's spokesperson recently said that he will give “serious consideration” to a medical marijuana bill the legislature passes. However, the bill will not make it to his desk until we have 60 identified supporters in the House, and compassionate Illinois residents need to speak up to make that happen.
Please send your representative an e-mail urging him or her to vote "yes" on SB 1381 when the time comes.
After you've written your representative, please follow up with a call.
With your help, Illinois could very well become the 14th state to enact an effective medical marijuana law, but we need as many people as possible taking action in order to make this a reality.
One thing that will help move SB 1381 to the House floor is positive stories in the press. Please send a letter to the editor using the template we have provided.
Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project and all of our allies. Please subscribe to our free legislative alert service to help make this the last year Illinois threatens the sick and dying with arrest.
That is great!!! I am going to go to your site and try to glean a lil more info on how i could possibly get something like this started in my region. I may PM you in the next day or two...
And as far as the vote being postponed, well, I guess, in a positive perspective, no news is good news for now...maybe. If they knew they were going to vote it down--they would have probably just done it...right? RIGHT?? (just agree, please. )
