If I veg a plant for 5 months...

Would that have any negative effects? If I were to keep topping it to keep it low would that be the best way to control growth? If that were the case having to veg that long would it be better to keep cloning and keep budding out in the mean time?

The reason I ask is because I would like to save the same genetics for next years outdoor season.

you could veg your plant for as long as you'd like indoors so long as you kept the lights set for a veg period.. i don't really see any downsides to doing so, although it would be a beast by the time you flowered it.. so long as you have a big enough pot to take advantage of the longer veg and enough room for a large plant..

idk why you just wouldn't veg the plant as normal and simply keep clones of her instead.. although plenty of people do exactly what you're talking about with mother plants and keep them in veg for extended periods of time..

Well I wanted to avoid the term "mother plant" and I do not know why...I just wanted to know I guess if putting a mother plant outdoors, and budding her out would have any negative effects like...potency, bud size, uhmm... idk anything...

nope, in fact, i think the opposite might hold true as i have read more then one breeder suggesting that people veg their seeds for x amount of days before inducing flowering to bring out all the flavor and potency potential in the genetics..
mo better imo.. :D

I couldn't agree more... I believe a longer veg time makes harvest so much sweeter, for many reasons, incl. the ones racerboy describes, and also in yield(outdoors or in, depending on size of space). If time is not an issue with your grow, and you aren't running an "assembly line" style grow like most of us do, harvesting every 3-4 months, then by all means let it veg for five months man...

yah, i'm usually never in any kind of rush to get bud, so i always like to veg till i see one of two things, if not both.. one being alternating nodes.. this is usually a pretty good indication that the plants are getting older and are reaching sexual maturity and therefore are ready to be flowered..
the second is obviously preflowers, which indicates the same thing, sexual maturity.. :D

I'll second that sir... I'm the same way. I will AT LEAST want to see preflowers, and with the alternating nodes you can definately tell they are "wanting" to begin flowering... Patience is a great virtue to have in life, and especially as a grower of anything...

In all I harvest once a year:P I am generally an outdoor grower. I wanted to try out a couple of experiments indoor and save some strains for next season. I posted another thread asking what light to use and got nothing but shit lol

I have a couple of experiments going on right now one of them is with a homemade nitrogen rich(i believe) nutrient and I plan on starting testing with that in 2 days. as I just transplanted and wanted to give them time to adjust. I also believe I will be doing an experiment with some "breeding" before anything else. I will post a picture of the 2 rooms I have available to me tomorrow and would any of you make a recommendation based on that?
